Maroubra,
Sorry to hear that you can not make it out to see the Premier League.
To give you the Run Down, Mateo, and Pai are doing Good, at Interchangeable mock and 5/8th, but not as well as Widders and Wagon are going.
They Lost in the last gasp against the Raiders
Won well against the Rabbits
Came from behind against Manly to win
Came from Behind against Cronulla to win
Came from behind against Newtown to Draw.
Witt is getting better each week but I still think he will be targeted in defence as he is at the moment in Premier League.
Hopkins and Graham have been in the side but I havent noticed them to much.
So sorry there isnt much in the Premier League attacking wise either.
As to everyones question, why does Smith change the side, it makes it boring blah blah blah.
Brian Smith was quoted to say in 2000 or so that he thought naming a team on Tuesday that will play 3 to 5 days latter was a stupid rule. He names a side on Tuesday that he believe would be the right team to play on Tuesday. Anything can happen in 3 days. Hell we saw that with ODwyer. The Team named on Tuesday is for the Big League and betting purposes. The Team named an hour before kick of is the one he has finally settled on. Brian wants to find the best for this club, it might be a position change or a different player in the position, but you know the side he names 1 hour before the game is a side that has been honed during the week for the game plan.
He is not trying to play mind games or do anything of the sort he is protesting against what he believes is a stupid rule, that the NRL has bought in. There are so many people crying about Smith changing teams it might be well for him to say those comments on sports tonight or what ever, or maybe ask Dennis for $10,000 to pay the fine that will come if he doesnt name a team before 6 pm Tuesday, then fill Wednesdays Press with the rules and why Smithy thinks they are stupid again.
I always find side naming day interesting. For the Most part the side that runs on will play like that, but there may be a few changes either in position or personal
I have a file on the parraletic website it is a piece of commentary from the 2001, when we all agree had the best side on the paddock in the Home and Away season.
I would like to quote that if I may
Scene is Parramatta have scored a try after a 40-20 kick by Brad Drew.
Try Scorer is David Vaealiki, This is the commentary from Ray Warren (RW), Peter Sterling (PS) and Phil Gould (PG),
RW: This Kid, fair dinkum not much bigger than Malcolm Johnston as got it away under extreme pressure.
PS: yeah and as talented as Miracle Mal as we see the Reason that Parramatta got the field position and the ball from the scrum, Brad Drew, wonderful kick, now this is the wrong way around this is what Vaealiki, Normally Does, his the strength out wide, but weve got Parramatta Players, weve got Andrew Ryan in the centres, Luke Burt getting involved, It is a stronger Luke Burt as he comes back from injury, gets outside one man, takes on Grosse, pushes his way in field, does an amazing job to keep that left arm free, Vaealiki reads it well, steps back inside beats the full back Mostyn, Carries Dykes over and Parramatta take advantage of the good work by Drew and now another Bert in the Parramatta line up making an impact.
PG: Yeah well the formation of the Parramatta side at the scrum must have had the Sharks Confused, the half back (Marsh) went to hooker, the Hooker (Drew) went to half back the five-eight (Beutner) went into the 2nd row. The Lock forward (Wagon) picked it up at the Scrum base and threw it to the Fullback (Hodgson) who was standing at five eight who threw it to the right winger (Burt) behind the front rower (Ryan) who was standing in the back line,
PS: (Laughs)
PG: the right Winger then linked up with the left centre (Vaealiki) and the left centre has scored, so the sharks had no chance what so ever at that play.
RW: Ah Stop it, Ah Stop it!
PS: Nah Nah youve made a mistake the front rower wasnt he was the front rower last week, this week he is the lock!
RW: Thats Right, Get it right Gus if you are going to take it apart that badly.
That was our Philosophy of Total Skill; players could play in several positions well. Even the Five Eight position was never certain.
Now, I dont know. But we have a big pack considering the Injuries and the fact that we have 3 or 4 Forwards out injured that would make the top 17 at any other club. Considering how physically imposing the Storm are known to be, we might stand a good chance.
