Wow a teddy bear is swearing, smoking bongs and miming sex acts.

Looks like he went the low 'shock humour' road when he is capable of a lot more.

he has built his entire career on this very premise. i honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Seth MacFarlane is synonymous with shock humour.

What exactly is he capable of?

Family guy is built off the same formulaic stale humour.

So if there's one time slightly jerky looking animatronic model would REALLY work as a special effects device it would be when trying to portray a tedy bear come to life. So what do they do? Use way-too-smooth CGI instead. Fail.

Looks hilarious, and shock horror is an original f**king idea not some warmed over cat turd based on a comic book, TV show or board game from the 60s.

Much more interested to see this than Anchorman 2, which surely we all know is going to take the original and just ass rape it. Will Ferrell ran out of funny about 6 years ago.

As for the hate of Seth Macfarlane, that can be chalked up mostly to people who watched an albeit very funny episode of South Park and have since adopted its beliefs on Family Guy wholesale. Still a freaking hilarious show, as is American Dad (The Cleveland Show I can take of leave)

Not sure how its like Wilfred?

Wilfred is a dog played by a human in a costume and basically acts like what we imagine dogs would if they could communicate.

This one is about a guy who has a real live teddy bear that interacts with the world in ways that are completely at odds with how people would imagine a teddy bear to act. Its like anti-care bears.

i think it definitely draws inspiration from Wilfred, as well as setups like Paul, too. i wouldn't call this original... more a mish-mash of well worn stories and situations delivered in a new-ish way. as long as it's well executed and funny, i have no dramas with that whatsoever. i think Seth himself would openly and happily admit his inspirations and influences on the subject matter.

This just seems like a satire of every McFarlane production ever.

"The cute teddy bear speaks and acts in a completely different manner than I expected? This is totes original, like omg you guys."

While we're on the subject, I've been a fan since I first laid eyes on his What a Cartoon pilot for a show that would eventually evolve into Family Guy (of course I didn't realise this until well...last year). Here's the short clip if you were a kid of the 90s and want to jog your memory - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=021PPpmwX98&feature=related

Unfortunately, I think since FG returned he's spread himself so thin his work hasn't come close to the quality of S1-3 of FG. American Dad is easily the best of a bad bunch but I don't think it comes close to anything Trey & Matt produce.

Well one could say that Wilfred, Paul etc were influenced by, say, ALF. However IMO that really sells them short as well. Hell one could say that Wilfred was influenced heavily by Brian from Family Guy.

The similarities are they there is a talking non-human character. Thats pretty much where the similarities end.

i don't believe you that you don't see more parallels between Wilfred and Ted aside from the superficial fact that they are non-human talking characters.

i would argue that the only difference i can see from the trailer is that more people can hear Ted talking.

they are both crass, rude, etc
they both do drugs
they both have an owner that has a girl situation of some description
they both hamper the human protagonists chances with said girl

just off the top of my head. i don't disagree with your statements regarding ALF, etc... but to claim that Ted only has superficial similarities to Wilfred could only be intentional ignorance based on the trailer that we've seen. it is nearly the exact same storyline, situation, everything. the differences are minor and largely superficial... not the similarities.

Honestly, besides them both being crude talking furry creatures, not sure how the stories of this movie and Wilfred are in any way similar.

uh, boy meets girl, crass furry drug fiend makes courting (or in this case, marrying) said girl difficult, hilarity ensues, cue credits? you don't see the similarity there? are you being intentionally obtuse?

Except that in Ted the bear is actually the boy's life long toy that he's had since a kid, the toy is genuinely alive, and from what I can see the movie is is going to be based around Ted getting his own apartment and life.

Wilfred is about a dog that only 1 bloke actually can see, who essentially is just the personification of a dog in how he acts.

If we are going to say Ted is derivative of Wilfred, we might as well say that both are derivatives of You, Me and Dupree, Notting Hill and any number of movies that include a gross out room mate that interferes with the relationship of the main character.

As I said if anything is a rip off, Wilfred is a direct rip off of Brian from Family.
