Ten best full backs of the NRL era

North Queensland miss Lachlan Coote, who is now starring for St Helens in the Super League (Europe). It was a huge blunder by Paul Green to release Coote, who is not one of the top ten full backs of all time, but was one of the top ten full backs ever to play for the Cowboys.

I foresee Lachlan Coote being welcomed back to the Cowboys with open arms.

Lachlan's only problem is that he looks a bit like Chad Townsend without the full mop of hair.

Where do Hughes and ponga rate on that list?

Robbie Odavis gets forgotten by the younger generation, won 2 grand finals played for qld and australia went pretty well
Needs more Robbie O and Robbie Ross in this conversation, two quality Novacastrians.
Ross starred for the Mariners, Broncos, Storm. Won the Golden Boot for Best Fullback in ‘00, would have been a fixture in Rep teams if not for a long history of hamstring and lower back injuries which forced a premature retirement in ‘03 and gave Slater his chance at the back. Ross taught Slater a lot about Fullback play, particularly defensive positioning.

Just consider his later career when Ross got picked in Origin in 1999 and had a stinker in a drawn series. They don't want to go crawling back to Brasher so they pick Peachey Game 1 in 2000. Peachey also is bog average and out of his depth so is dropped and never plays Origin again. They bring Brasher as an old man into Game 2 and he is man of the match. He also has a blinder in Game 3.
Funny, the history books remember Ross’ contribution to the ‘99 Origin series far more kindly than you... Ross’ knee was what kept him out of that ‘00 series.

It is common knowledge on this forum that I consider Tedesco to be grossly overrated and overpaid and thus he is a prime candidate for the finger somewhere down the track.
Grossly overrated indeed. What a legendary quote.

1. Slater
2. Tedesco
3. Daylight

That's not surprising Albert considering the Cowboys have only had nine full-backs play in that position (minimum requirement 10 games).

Ponga is about 15 spots too high on that list.

The list loses its credbility with Ponga and RTS placed so high. Very disappointing but revision can always be made.

Jarryd Hayne did what James Tedesco did in Origin albeit against the best Origin team of all time littered with immortals aka the dynasty team whilst James Tedesco did get the benefit of playing against Ben Hunt and Corey Norman

Tedesco is great but still has a long long way to go to match Lord Hayne
