FMD, after Game 1 all the talk was about how well he adapted to the role, then a single loss and suddenly he's the scapegoat?

Granted Thurston wasn't 100%, but even with a fully fit Cronk in the halves with him, they only managed to get Qld back into Game 1 at 14-0 down through some NSW handling errors. Qld's dominance in the opening 20 minutes last night was far more pronounced and they held the football better afterwards, there's only so much Maloney could have done...

it saddens me that pearce has played more games at halfback than joey in origin. pearce isnt good enough to hold joey's boots

Maloney's terrible. Always has been, always will be. A few appearances on The Footy Show doesn't change that. He's still one of the worst defenders in the NRL.

Why can't the selectors work out the bleeding obvious?

I've been saying this for years - Pearce's best position is hooker. He is a tough defender and can cause teams problems around the ruck. But he's not a general on the field.

Adam Reynolds simply must replace Pearce. Pearce has consistently come up short. Adam Reynolds has been better all year.
As for Maloney, unlike Pearce he has not had as many chances. I'd be ok with him getting another game but at the same time I wouldn't have a problem with Sutton or Josh Reynolds replacing him because I think they do offer more.

Do you honestly think NSW would have won with Reynolds in the team last night? It would have made zero difference.

After 20 minutes we were down 14-0 and had 2 possessions (1 error) or whatever it was. Gallen lead our forwards at that stage with 21m compared to 70+ for the QLD forwards. How on Earth is that the halves fault?

The kicking game was poor because QLD dominated the match. The pressure was immense and we don’t have anyone available that would have done better. Robbie Farah tried a couple of kicks in the first half and his were bad as well.

The lack of dropouts at NRL level is a concerning stat, for what it’s worth I think Carney should have been there from day 1.

Why they didn’t have Pearce on Thaiday’s side is beyond me, especially after the way he handled him last year.

Lol there are many reasons to pick Carney and I would be a fan of him coming into the side but defence is not one of them.

He is a horrible defender.

Would we have won? Possibly not. As you said, it was a tough task for anyone in the first 20 minutes...

Would we have lost by 20 points? No.

My key issue is that when NSW had the opportunities (and we did) to build pressure they wouldn't and couldn't. Reynolds has the intelligent kicking game to help build that pressure.

State of Origin, whilst a spectacular game with the games best (and pearce), comes down to the simple things - field position, pressure, and defence. The kicking game has a major role in the first two, and can help with the last. NSW has been missing this for years.

Please, we would have lost by the exact margin we lost by last night. He will get picked one day and the poor bugger will be crucified by you lot after every loss like every other NSW half.

Selectors won't take a big gamble but IMO the form halfback this year has been a NEw South Welshman, Albert Kelly

Agree with this 100%. Kellly should be picked but we all know NSW selectors are either too dumb or they have already filled their quota of black players this year.

You stupidity knows no bounds. Kelly is in his first full season in first grade after a very rocky start to his career. He's obviously a very talented player, and I wouldn't personally be averse to us taking a punt on him, but to suggest his heritage has anything at all to do with him not being top of the pecking order makes you a bigger moron than I thought. Besides, isn't he a Queenslander like his cousin?

You just know he's the type of person who'd bash NSW for supposed "racial discrimination" but then rubbish Sydney for being "too full of ethnics!"

Can't deny how good this bloke is in attack. Unfortunately you can't deny how farkin horrible he is in defence. 27 missed tackles the past 5 weeks.

Someone like Mullo has a brilliant kicking game, a bit of a running game and is pretty bloody solid defensively. Then again it's becoming very hard to deny the Sutton/Reynolds combo and they will most probably be the starting pair in 2014.
