For a bloke with heaps of money, you should know that trillions spent in an area like this isn't transferable to the same amount spent in other areas.
Besides, there will be scientific benefits from apparently whimsical shit like this. If we can't get off the planet the race is eventually doomed.
It's interesting that people often compare the large numbers thrown around for wealth with the real poverty faced by others, as if they were so easily transferable. As if you could take a billion dollars from Gina Rinehart and convert it to a hundred dollars each for ten million people.
But most of the enormous wealth of these people is made of goods, services and assets with hugely inflated values. A ten million dollar property isn't made up of resources that could be spread among twenty properties worth $500k each. An $800k car isn't made from the same amount of resources as forty cars worth only $20k. And a $200k a year corporate lawyer is useless to any number of poor people.
It's all about demand and supply and what the market is willing to pay. So who decides that we need to spend trillions on living on a uninhabitable planet? Is it all just ego and curiosity?
The people who are willing to spend that much are the ones that decide how much it costs. Of course it's ego. But if they didn't have so much disposable income they wouldn't be able to spend it.
People wasting their money on shit is a sign of a strong economy. It keeps other idiots employed who can then spend their money on useless shit. It's the circle of life.
I have got sore legs.
Spot on Pou. So we really haven't progressed much since the Roman times when you think of it. Slavery is now masked as child labour in Pakistan making a soccer ball for some kid in Australia.
You socially climbed out of it?
Correction, it's the circle of shit.
I didn't get a chance to put it up here the other night, but i saw John Mayer at Allphones Arena on Thursday night. F*ck he is good.
How much will it cost to get the shit over there to build with that you beaut gravity?
Do we start mining and forestry there also. It's bullshit.
Just make what you already have better. Still plenty of space.
Captured asteroids?
