Some of those calling for a spill would have been following Sinodinos, who stated he wanted the spill so there could be an open discussion about leadership within the govt. (basically meaning it's been shit and needs to improve).

I don't think Sinodinos would have voted against Abbott, so you'd expect the number of those actually wanting the change to be lower. Plus, I'd say it's likely Turnbull voted for it in a secret ballot, as did some other front benchers, so those saying two-thirds of the backbench want Abbott gone are wrong.

I think he'll survive until the next election, unless he keeps making dumb clangers like he has of late.

Spoken like someone who has never experienced the difference between strong leadership and weak. Or more likely you've experienced bullying masquerading as leadership.

I've experienced all three of those things, actually.

'Leadership' is a word that's bandied around way too much these days, by people who don't really have a clue what it means.

I know what you're talking about; you know what I'm talking about. We're talking about exactly the same thing again. Scary, isn't it?

So it's actually worse than that? Some of the front benchers want him gone, too?

Of course we're talking about the same thing. We just have different opinions. There's nothing scary about that.

Reports in Murdoch press today that 6 of his front bench were amoung the 39.

Yeah, Turnbull and Bishop would be amongst that number but that doesn't necessarily mean it's because they're against Abbott. They just see an opportunity for themselves.

Any junior ministers or secretaries who see promotions for themselves with a change (whether through loyalty to Turnbull and Bishop or simply through a general cabinet reshuffle) would be in there, too.

Plus, you might have some that just want Abbott gone.

To be honest, I'd think it would be more than 6 on the frontbench.

No, we have the same opinion on this: Tony Abbott is not a very good leader. (Strong does not equal good).

If we're going to use a subjective term like 'good' then I will say I think Tony Abbott probably is a good leader. He does what he thinks is right and I'm certain most people don't do what they think is right, instead doing what they think is best for them.

Whether or not you agree with Abbott's view of what is right is beside the point.

Pou do you think Hindy did what he thought was right? I reckon he did. I dont think that necessarily makes someone a good leader.

No but it makes them good. lingard is splitting hairs now we've established the difference between a strong leader and a weak one.

Being good doesn't make one a leader any more than being a strong leader doesn't make one good.
