I can't see Abbott surviving. He is a monumental failure and I've been a Liberal voter since I was old enough to vote. On an international level he has been nothing short of an embarrassment. The shit happens fiasco and the famous nodding silent interview and the Putin shirt comment, not to mention the recent duke of parasite award. It may sound petty but he even walks like a fool. Also possibly the worst public speaker I have seen in such a position of power. I can't cop him. Bring on Malcolm. If only Costello was here he would have romped it in.

He didn't need to be. Leaders haven't run democracies since the 80s. Modern voters don't want to be led, they want to be served.

Do you remember sometime in the mid 90's, when the Libs were looking for a new leader and most were expecting a Costello/Downer ticket? And they came up with a Downer/Costello ticket. People don't completely forget that stuff. Costello always seemed to be hiding under someone's skirt.

No spill but 39 people voted for it.

He will remain but a lot of his members dont want him there.

Spill defeated 61-39.

Abbott needs to work on his poll results now otherwise he's dead man walking.

PS> Also needs a strong result in NSW. Obeid & Co should have ensured that.

Speculation now there could be another spill later this week after two thirds of backbenchers voted against PM's leadership. (@ash_gillon)

The commentators on ABC saying 40% of his party want him to move on, that makes his position untenable so they are saying another challenge or he should resign.

They also say that because of solidarity, the figures are exaggerated on the high side so its probabaly more like 50/50.

yeah - but people inside know what goes on behind the scenes - if he was involved there will be pressure on him

Yep. Even before this morning.

He also faces a bitterly divided party room, with Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi lashing out at plotters trying to undermine the Prime Minister and calling on potential leadership rival Malcolm Turnbull to resign from cabinet.

"There's no challenger but the party room is supposedly divided into the Turnbull camp and the Abbott camp. We have cabinet ministers who are ringing around claiming to represent Malcolm Turnbull in this spill," Senator Bernardi told Fairfax Media.

"Those that are involved in this plot against the PM need to gather up what's left of their integrity and determine whether they should sit around the cabinet table. It's not just Turnbull."
