Over reaction much ?

My point being show some respect for the original occupants not tell them to move where it suits us.

Not disagreeing with you here Twiz on the need to recognise and show respect to prior occupants, just that the continued use of the word invasion to signify a series of events that occured in a different era when European colonisation of lands not occupied by the European nations that thought themselves superior (English, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French, etc.) and was deemed common practice, is inflammatory and does nothing except continue to justify an us v them attitude.

Abbott still pays $4.5B subsidies to Miners, yet is cutting back funding to traditional owners for remote communities, legal aid and legal services and 150 other programs will be wound down over the next 24 months.

No but acknowledging that the invasion has contributed greatly to the displacement and wellbeing of the original inhabitants of this land is an important step in helping them move forward.
Not doing things that contribute to their continued displacement and erosion of wellbeing is also important.

The original inhabitants of this land are all dead, as are the original invaders. Forgive and forget.

The decedents of the original invaders have maintained rule and the original inhabitants are their subordinates in society.

The Mabo (Native Title) case in the High Court was all about having to prove you ancestral links to the land.

Apparently now the current government thinks that these ancestral links are a mere lifestyle choice.

Ancestral links are a lifestyle choice. If I want to go back and live in Europe nobody should have to subsidise it.

Everybody is the exception. How many of us are in a position of power over indigenous Australians? This whole us and them narrative is a fallacy. There is no 'us' - we're all on our own. And if there is a 'them' it's only because it is perpetuated by interest groups with something to gain. That includes those who make their livelihoods administering welfare.

Bullshit. There is an us and them. Us is your elected government and their policies.

Before you say that you have no influence over policy, I refer you to the recent QLD election.

If you spent any significant amount of time with Indigenous Australians who live in remote areas you would see that there is very much an us vs them mentality and yes, that it is propagated by interest groups.
Indigenous Australians living in remote areas are in a real position of desperation.
Taking away access to basic services is not welfare, it should be a right.

ancestral links are part of their culture and heritage, to say that is a lifestyle choice proves lack of understanding of the issue

It's part of everyone's culture and heritage. That's pretty much the definition of heritage. The question is why is one person's heritage more important than others.

I don't see anyone saying it's more important, just that it's important.
The fact that a particular group has historically had their capacity to access the same opportunities as most others stuffed around with tells me that something needs to be done to put the situation to rights.
Ignoring that group's identity in the process is almost certainly not helpful.
