WTF is happening with this country.

Govt has done deal with ALP to cut support for people under 35 with disabilities.

I agree Gronk. Surely 45 was a much better age cut off. :sarcasm::sarcasm:

Whilst I don't agree with the deal done, I can't help but feel that if Milne and the Greens stuck to their "core business" (being the environment) and didn't overplay their hand when it came to general policy (they only received a lousy 8% vote after all), that there may well be more chance that these kind of cuts wouldn't be necessary.

This govt is totally heartless and places money ahead of people in their priorities.

Shrewd move IMO. If they don't live to 35 (as surely many now won't) then just imagine how much money we'll save. Even if they do somehow survive, they'll probably be on the streets or something by then and will find it almost impossible to claim.

How the hell can you guys defend these inhumane dickheads.

If they were any good they manage things alot better than taking money from the disadvantaged. They are just an easy target for lazy pollys.

If you don't put money first then you won't end up with any at all.

Then what you you use to pay these benefits?

How about the conservatives learn a little about compassion to those less fortunate ?

You want to find the cash to look after the disabled ?

Mining subsidies top $4.5bn: Australia Institute

"The mining industry has the lowest rate of corporate tax because it has so many tax concessions," he said.
"The average is about 21 per cent, the mining industry only pays 14 per cent.
"While we have a big debate about the car industry and how much subsidies we give those, they're only getting about half a billion dollars a year whereas the mining industry gets four and a half billion dollars a year."
Exploration and prospecting deductions increased by $220 million on last year while deductions for capital works expenditure rose by $127.5 million.

Anyone keen on a wee dram ?

Single malt or blend ?

I have been quite partial to Johnnie Walker Double Black of late. A very smokey warming treat. Not cheap, so I get it duty free when I can.

Other than that I drink Bailie Nicol Jarvie (BNJ) as an everyday. A blend like JW above. Made by the people at Glenmorangie (they make world class single malts).

Any tips on value single malts worth a try ? I hear Settlers Cove from TASSIE is world class. Not cheap though.

Coke free zone please.

Politicians are an easy target for lazy thinkers. In a democracy there is nobody under greater constraints than politicians. Talk is cheap when in opposition but once in power there's very little they can do to effect change.

A key factor is that the economy and job market are extremely sensitive to tampering, and f**king around with tax just because you hate rich people and corporations always ends up hurting the little guy. The Venezuelan economy is a perfect (and hilarious) example of institutionalised 'compassion' (read: envy and resentment) driving productivity out of the country and leaving the peasantry destitute.

Lagavulin is my favourite of the standard retail single malts (I think Ray Donovan likes it too, so it must be for bad asses). Laphroaig is of similar style be a bit more 'in your face' and bit cheaper. I quite like the basic Talisker (which is cheaper) too, and less peaty.

Compassion is a human quality and charity should be dispensed by individuals, not governments. The left wing desire for a charity/welfare state is just deferring 'compassion' (a nice word for envy politics) to the government so they don't have to. Studies show conservatives are just as compassionate as liberals.

If Ray Donovan drinks Lagavulin, then I'm onto it.

$100 per bottle IIRC. Man's gotta do I guess.

What did John Wayne drink ? He'd have taken out Ray Donovan on his day. Maker's Mark when he was in the mood for some celebratin' ?

What is charity other than giving to those less fortunate?

Every merkin should do more for the needy. Drink less hundred dollar whiskey and you'll be able to donate plenty. Or keep the money for yourself and instead donate your time. Nothing's stopping you.

Of course, I suspect you'll do like most lefties and vote for a 'charitable' government (offering generous benefits to you and yours as well, of course) and then go home and whinge about conservatives and corporations and make zero sacrifices of your own but still feel like you're part of the solution.

This is what you say ALL the time.

Instead of me being entitled to have an opinion as to where by taxes should be spent (and I pay a shit load) your solution is that I should stop whining and take on the challenges of the underprivileged myself. LOL at your small minded darwinian conservatism concepts. You and HJ should get to know each other better. You two have more in common than you prolly think.

If you paid less in tax you'd have more money to give where you believe it's needed. Plus more of it would get to those in need rather than getting wasted on wages for bureaucrats.

Sounds like win-win, unless you make your living off society's administrative costs.
