I reckon Shorten will beat Abbott.

It's kind of like how Abbott beat Gillard - when you have someone who almost everyone hates, then it's hard not to win.
Although Abbott isn't doing as poorly as Gillard was in the opinion polls (yet?)

I find it very amusing that Gillard was beaten within the context of an incredibly negative and vocal opposition and an outlandishly biased and relentless media campaign ................. but the Liberals are now looking down the barrel of defeat because their leader can't even string three words together. Bill Shorten won't beat them; he's as weak as dishwater. Tony Abbott will lose this by himself. Surely he's the worst Prime Minister we've ever had?

Easily fixed:

- remove negative gearing for pre-existing house (can remain in place for current users). Only allowed on new builds and can only be used against income from that property

If you do that it is not really 'negative gearing' (as it is currently understood). That's simply deducting interest against the related income, and presumably arriving at a tax loss. The problem with negative gearing is not so much the deduction in the current year....it's the combination of this and the favourable tax treatment of the capital gain when you sell the property.

Land tax and broadening GST are good ideas.

Depends how you measure it. If by worst you mean powerless and ineffectual then he'd be up (down) there.

But if you measure it on net negative impact Judd/Rillard has to be the worst PM in history. How else could Abbott have ended up elected?

He took us to Heaven...and then told us it doesn't exist. :D

That's the episode I'm talking about.

He goes on about how we're only here by chance. How it was chance that sent the asteroid to kill the dinosaurs etc

But it wasn't chance. Those rocks were following the laws of the universe, and were predestined to smash into the Earth.

Now, there's a hell of a lot more to it than that but he established his premise of chance on fraudulent ground, then went and used that to push his atheist views. It was a blatant lie.

Still, he's kinda cute and it's a pretty good series.

It's true, and Gillard and Ruddy are in the front row with him!!

Sad....

I hope they have the big debate thing, and Abbott stands mute for 30s again. Would be good viewing!

Well that article was in May, published by his mate Murdoch around budget time. Speculation spin at it's best.

If you had bothered to take a look, S&P, Moody's & Fitch still all have us at AAA.

That isnt because debt to GDP has been reduced is it?

I think it goes to show how difficult it is to "lead" a political party in the modern era.

You have to sell your soul to factions within the party; then you confront the independent and smaller parties blocking your policy implementation; and all the while you are locked in a constant battle with media power brokers who can finish you as soon as you stray from their own, separate, commercial and personal agendas.

People bemoan the lack of quality politicians but realistically they have no hope.

Because of a relentless, biased media campaign. (But I forgot - the media only give the people what they want, don't they?)
