I reckon we've been whinging about this club for a lot longer than that. I remember us winning three games in 1995.

That's when I knew I was hooked.

Yeah it's all the media's fault. They love Tony Abbott and the Libs.

of course they do. haven't you heard? everything the current government does is for the benefit of rupert murdoch because he is abbott's bff - or so all the people who are way to the left keep telling everyone.

They were far more relentless and negative about Labor, as you know.

so you seriously believe without any media intervention that gillard would have beaten abbott in an election?

He can't accept Rudd/Gillard stank like a sardine's vagina. They're to blame for whatever followed.
by the reasoning of many lefties it's a miracle the labor party ever get into power. if not for the Murdoch media, Rudd no doubt would have won the election for his first stint as pm by a record 100% margin, given how easily he won by anyway.

people can claim what they want about media influence on politics but the reality is that the labor party lost a lot of the public's confidence when instead of focussing on what they wanted to/could deliver, they became the Rudd v gillard ego side show, and they got caught up in the lib's game of needing to explain why we needed a budget surplus in the next five minutes instead of explaining why it wasn't needed right away.

Probably didn't help that Gillard promised x,y,z and then almost immediately said 'no I didn't' and did the opposite.

I know every pollie does it, but she seemed very adept at drawing attention to the fact she was doing it...

I'm saying that, without the media's relentless campaign, Tony Abbott could not possibly have become Prime Minister. The man sat in opposition and contributed zilch to the democratic process. The only thing he offered as an alternative to Labour was that he would 'stop the boats' - something that none of us cared two hoots about, but were convinced by the media that we did. We also didn't care that Julia Gillard lied (since every politician does that) - but once again the media convinced us that it was a frightful betrayal of our trust. And on the economy - it was conveniently glossed over (by the media) that the whole world was in economic recession and that Australia had fared remarkably well. So Tony Abbott - aided and abetted by the media - gives an incredibly vague and over generalised promise that he would fix something (the economy) that wasn't broken.
So, yeah, I think either Gillard or Rudd would have won. That certainly does not mean that I believe they were very good leaders or Prime Ministers or whatever else. I also have no political affiliations or interest at all. Except I'd vote for Hindy III as well.

It certainly seems as though he was a tool, and someone I wouldn't want to work for. And, of course, the media has been heavily involved in elections previous to this one. My point is that, without the very obvious bias against the Labour Party in that particular election, Tony Abbott would not have won (in my opinion). The Liberals, I believe, would have been forced to change leaders. Turnbull or Bishop, for instance. I don't know why you or anyone else would think I was defending Gillard or Rudd or even the Labour Party. Just making a point (offering an opinion) about Tony Abbott (and the media). And, by the way, it is my belief that the Liberals will not win the next election with Abbott as leader.

If anything positive it might let other people know the consequences of such silly behavior.

Roll the dice-You pay the price.Life's a game but try and jump the fire you might just get burnt. Does anyone have a problem with her getting the firing squad?

I won't answer your last question, but I will ask, what possesses these people to take these risks?
It just blows me away that some can be so naive and stupid.

Probably related to the invincibility gene that affects a lot of people when they are young. I guess they just can't imagine getting caught and dealt with. I don't get it.
