Reform requires bipartisan support. Alas it seems things have to get worse before voters will accept that entitlement is over.

The paid parental leave thing was stupid and sent mixed messages about government spending, but Gillard's mysogyny meltdown left Abbott in a position where he had to be seen to do something for women.

When Tony Abbott was opposition leader there was no bi-partisanship in anything. He would not allow it. Shorten appears weak, but he stated many times that he feels the opposition has two roles. One is to keep the government honest; and the other is to try to work with the government for the good of the Australian people.

You know what I mean.

Well don't use that emotive, dishonest term 'rich' when you're talking about people who aren't. I understand it's a convenient dog whistle for people like you, but dehumanising a group based on their education, job or income is really no better than what is still happening to another high earning group of people with big noses and yarmulkes.

A guy that lives in the apartment above me jumped from his balcony yesterday. I found him.
Some poor bugger from his family has to identify him. They won't be doing it via his head or face.
Something I'll never forget.

Abbott is saying that the criticism of his Chief of Staff Peta Credlin (they say she's a bitch) is sexist. I tend to agree, cos if she was a male he'd just be a prick who's good at his job. So let's ignore the fact that she is either male or female. We're better than that.

I put it to you however, that she may be both. Or was one once perhaps ?

Thanks fellas. I'm fine. I am more saddened by the fact that literally 1 hour later the ground had been hosed clean and a car was parked where he lay. Not even a flower. Life and/or death can be callous.

I'm surprised that the area wasn't cordoned off as a crime scene.
I too am saddened at this news. A brother of a very good friend of mine also took his own life last week, and just an hour ago, my mum informed me of two former students of my school who also took their lives this week.

That's f**king 3 in a week, of people that I knew.
Sadly, very sadly, it is just all too common nowadays.

It's a pretty horrible damn thing you witnessed, mate. Take care of yourself. Two years ago I helped drag a young lady from the sea. She was dead. Drowned. I was in a fair bit of shock for a few months after that. These aren't things that just leave you overnight. As long as you realise that, you'll be right.

Yep. It's too common - but it still isn't very common. Fortunately, suicide is a very rare event. Roughly one person in ten thousand suicides in Australia. It's very sad but, like everything, needs to be kept in perspective.

Mate, I understand that and agree. I try to keep things in perspective and generally do.
It doesn't make the whole situation any better.
The amount of farmers taking their lives is just sad.
I left school 34 years ago, and I reckon I know a dozen or more people who have committed suicide.
Perspective sometimes just doesn't help.
