Bresciano transfer hits a snag
August 08, 2007
MARK Bresciano's move from Palermo to Manchester City may have hit a snag, with claims the clubs disagree about the timing of payment of the transfer fee.
City is reported to have agreed to pay £4 million ($9.49 million) for the Australia midfield player, but the English Premier League club is believed to want to defer the transfer payment until September.
Italian Serie A club Palermo is believed to want the transaction completed by August 31.
"There's no agreement on his departure," Palermo sporting director Rino Foschi said today.
Other reports suggest Palermo is seeking more than £4 million for Bresciano.
Bresciano, 27, was expected to become the ninth signing of new City coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's reign at the club, with the Australian reportedly agreeing to a four-year deal.
Bresciano, who spent eight seasons in Italy playing for Empoli, Parma and Palermo, said the chance to play under Eriksson, a former coach of Serie A side Lazio, was a huge incentive.
"I want this move to freshen me up a bit," he said.
"I need a new challenge.
"I was beginning to lose a little bit of my edge in Italy. It was time for a change.
"If I'm honest, I'd lost a bit of my excitement for Serie A and I needed to get that back.
"City are ambitious they have spent big and are going places. I'm genuinely excited to be a part of it."
