You still haven't told us why the hell we should care...

Some people still respect honesty from their PM, and find it unnerving when he fails to show it.

 looks like you are wrong Millers about kids being thrown. Here's awitness

An Australian Navy gunner aboard HMAS Adelaide has broken her silence on what she saw the night asylum seekers allegedly threw children overboard from a boat in Australian waters.

Laura Whittle, 22, helped rescue refugees from the water on October 6, 2001, and says she did not see any children being thrown from the vessel, known only as SIEV IV.

Im not saying children were or were not thrown but because one person said they didnt see any get thrown, then that proves categorically that none were thrown overboard?

You should read up on it.
The Commander of the HMAS Adelaide said no children were thrown overboard.

Jimbo, it's your choice, but why do you keep making posts if you don't care?

For my own amusement. I'd liken it to pulling the wings off a fly, but you blokes would probably get the RSPCA on my ass...

As I said, I didnt comment on whether children were thrown overboard. It just seemed to me as if Lang Park was saying that becasue this one witness said none were thrown over then none must have been thrown over.

The actual statement from the Chief of the Defence Force (Cosgrove) is proof enough:

His report recalls a conversation between himself and Commander Banks of the HMAS Adelaide:

WE DISCUSSED THE EVENTS OF 7 OCTOBER 2001, AND HE INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS SURE THAT NO CHILD HAD BEEN THROWN OVERBOARD. I QUESTIONED HIM CLOSELY TO TEST THE BASIS FOR HIS ASSURANCE.

UPON THE BASIS OF THIS CONVERSATION WHICH PUT TO REST THE CONCERNS THAT I HAD ABOUT THE WRITTEN MATERIAL, I WAS CONVINCED THAT, DESPITE THE INITIAL REPORTS TO THE CONTRARY, IN FACT NO CHILD HAD BEEN THROWN INTO THE WATER FROM SIEV 4 ON 7 OCTOBER 2001.

"Another Senate inquiry to waste time and resources eh? Wasting time and money"

Heaven forbid a liberal supporter would want an inquiry to clear Johnnie, if given the opportunity to have one ?

Yeah wasting money, not much unlike the medicare propoganda post out, not too mention the terrorist fridge magnet. A couple of million right there.

The children overboard was a key issue to the election win

why?
regardless of whether or not kids were thrown overboard, the Libs would have dealt with them in the same way

Labor would have ummed and aahed over the whole issue like they do with every issue

We can only assume that the public prefers the Libs border protection policies more
If that's contributed to the election win, it's Labor's problem, not the Libs'.

The Libs obviouslt felt it contributed to their cause enough to lie about it.

"We don't want people of that sort in Australia" said Howard, speaking of parents who would throw their children overboard. It greatly increased the anxiety people had about the refugees and made a significant part of the push towards polling day. As more than 20% of people make their minds up at the booth this was massive.

No liberal supporter can claim to be outraged about a waste of money - you are spot on to think about the ad campaign - every ad break we had one or two ads from our pals in Federal govt. The ALP's calls to have this independently audited and charged back to the liberal party were fully justifiable.
