Oh I agree on the Fantastic Four but Doctor Doom is a great villain in the Marvel universe.

More of an idea than you. You can't even name 4 characters in the dc universe which are more popular or recognizable than superman, batman, joker and catwoman. . Because those 4 have never been in the top 10 of polls or anything

superman has had 6 films, 2 cartoon shows, 2 tv series and countless comics since the 70s

batman has had 8 films, 5 or 6 cartoon shows, 1 tv series and countless comics since the late 60s

Joker has appeared in 2 movies both critically acclaimed, voted numerous times the best villain ever, appeared in countless comics one the killing joke noted as one of the best

catwoman has appeared in 3 movies, voted the best female comic character countless times, has had her own comic series and appeared in many others

The last time I saw Spader on screen he was a middle management corporate quasi-sociopath in The Office, and we'll soon see him in The Blacklist as America's number one terrorist, so the step to super villain should be a natural extension.

Yeah, I'm intrigued. If characters like Batman, Superman and the Joker aren't DC Comic's most recognisable properties then I don't know what is.

I guess I don't know anything about DC Comics either.

Please, there is a better chance that your average everyday person knows more about joker and catwoman due to mainstream exposure than green lantern, flash and wonder woman. Those 3 haven't been relevant in everyday media for a long time hence no movie based on flash and wonder woman.. wonder woman got a series which wsas canned after pilot.. flashs series bombed in the 90s. Green Lantern movie bombed but his series isnt too bad.

Joker is easily more recognizable and imo so is catwoman. Thats why theyll continue to be in dc/wb movies for as long as Batman is. Your average gym junkie or construction worker or secretary know them. Most kids known them.

Id probably have to elevate Robin to 4th spot in front of Catwoman and WW would not be all that far behind her. When women go to superhero costume parties (yes, I have been to quite a few), Catwoman and WW are easily the most prevelant options.

DCs marketing of their characters goes well beyond the movies and has been strong for decades. You only have to walk down the toy isles at K-Mart to see the scale of their popularity
