yeah zod wasn't a threat......... pretty much held the world to ransom and destroyed a good chunk of it

That's the premise of virtually every story with a villain ever told. If he wasn't a threat to the status quo, he wouldn't be a villain.

He needs to be a threat to Superman, as he is the character the viewer is invested in.

Nobody watching cares if the world is destroyed, as its not their world and nothing is at stake. It's the character of Superman they are meant to invest in, and so the threat should be one that is a viable one to him.

They obviously know he isn't going to die, but tension is created when a storyteller creates a situation in which a seed of doubt exists.

On an unrelated note, I am kicking myself for misreading the Avengers: Age of Ultron release date as May 21 instead of April 21.

I've been sitting here all night unaware that I could be watching it.

I went and watched it tonight

Better than the first one. I won't say who, but someone does die.
Ultron couldve been written better imo, something was missing.
Action scenes were pretty epic.

Oh, and there's only a mid credit scene, no end credit scene. So don't bother waiting right til the end like an idiot the way I did.

Well I must have imagined Zod belting Kal-El to a standstill

You might have. Took him longer than it should have by my fuzzy recollection. It wasn't a particularly memorable film. I hadn't given it any thought since leaving the cinema until I saw someone describing it as good.

In terms of storytelling failures, Age of Ultron has a few. Mainly to do with character motivation I think

And this quicksilver has nothing on the days of future past quicksilver

So, Ultron was definitely a fun, enjoyable film. It's probably better than the 1st Avengers but doesn't have that "Wow look at all the heroes together" factor.
It is much like the 1st one in structure. Plenty of action and one liners. And the credits scene is kinda like in the 1st one too.
While I'm happy with this film and not disappointed at all, I am glad Joss Whedon isn't attached to the next Avengers, mainly because I don't think this one advanced the characters much.

Hopefully him stepping back allows him to focus on other projects. Agents of SHIELD has improved immensely since its Winter Soldier crossover, but a more hands on role from him would do the show good.

Or, if he's up for the challenge, I'd love to see him un-ruin Gotham.

I'm looking forward to next weeks AoS as it should be the episode that ties in with AoU.

Actually the next two episodes may tie in, since the movie isn't being released in the states until 1st May

You haven't enjoyed the Inhuman angle?

Daisy not being my favourite character hurts things a little, but I've liked the expansion of the mythology. It's been good seeing the show introduce something to the MCU instead of simply reacting to it.

That being said, a more memorable villain than 'The Real Shield' would be nice. Surely there's some low level bads from the comics they could be better using?

Never been into the Inhumans side of the Marvel comics and the interpretation they are taking here is pretty bland imo

I liked AoS because it applied a more grounded approach to the MCU and the Inhumans stuff moves away from that. Its all too much "mystical destiny" etc for my tastes, at least for my expectations of the show. I much prefer the "Secret Agent/Tech" side of the show which has been lacking this season

Fair enough. I'd honestly never heard of the Inhumans until they introduced them, so I wasn't particularly interested in it.

As long as they stay away from the dire 'Monster of the Week' formula that they employed for the first 16 odd episodes of season one, I'll keep watching. The ongoing storyline is so much more engaging than isolated stories.

Do Hulk and Black Widow bang though?
