Made the top 8 in 7 years (00, 01, 02, 05, 06, 07, 09) (thanks Colonel for 02)

5 years we reached the game before the grand final (00, 01, 05, 07, 09)

Making the grand final twice (01, 09)

Minor premiers (01, 05)

Would have been great to win one of those comps, but overall compared to most sides have we had a succussfull decade really or not really?

cheers

Depends on ones definitions of success.

Add to that list Club Champions 2000 - 2003, 2005, 2008

Reserve Grade / NSW Premier League / NSW Cup Premiers : 2005 - 2008

SG Ball 2007 (Dan Mortimer's Team I believe)

Harold Matthews Cup Premiers 03 - 04 and 2008 ( I believe 2004 was Hayne, Mannah, Inu and Matt Keating) (Along with Tautai, Hodgkinson and Tony Williams)

But for some, all of that means nothing unless you have an NRL premiership beside your name.

It is the one thing all fans want, and ache for and with out it some will not see any of the above as anything more than an achievement and not really success.

For some success means achieving your highest aim and nothing else below that matters, in reality our highest aim is the NRL premiership and so without one, we have not been successful for 23 seasons.

Would be very interested to know Wayne Bennett's win /loss ratio in matches through July - September period.
He lost six of his last seven this season..I don't think his ratio with the Bronc was much better (he has won six premierships though)

If we are talking about coaching success rates. I do like these stats

Finals Series: 2001(8th, Eliminated Week 1)

Grand Final Qualifier: 2003 (From 6th)

Grand Finalist: 2002,07,08,09

Premiership: 2006

Coached: 196 Won: 123 Draw: 3 Lost: 70 W%: 63

I am sure we all know who they belong to.

2001, 2005 and to a lesser extent 2009 will always go down as a "should have won" year.

2001 - we were absolutely on fire up until the grand final qualifier with Brisbane. We just scraped through that and then we all know what happened in the big one.

2005 - Premiership was there for the taking, but we choked big time against the Cowboys (although no Hindy or Fui in that game).

2009 - Amazing effort to reach the top 8 let alone the GF! Didn't play at our best until 65 min into the game, and still nearly got away with it!

Let's all hope 2010 brings us the success that has eluded us for so long.

Parramatta lost alot of players and with that grub Brian Smith coming to your club he took it down even further. You guys were great with JT at the helm but as soon as Brian Smith came. Whoa. Now that Brian Smith has gone to Roosters hopefully he brings them down too. Hate those bludgers, i also hate you Parramatta fans.

Parra deserves better fans than you. Bandwagon. Us Penrith fans follow through thick and thin. In 07, copped the spoon and a terrible year. We still stuck by them. What is sad that the amount of people that have only tuned up to games because of their winning form. Half of them are probably you guys. Have some respect for your club and support them when the road is dark.

Maybe that's cause there's nothing else to do in Penrith.

It is something that St George fans have discussed and I believe has merrit. I think Raper came out and said that close enough is not good enough. Then it was thought that the Dragons and their fans had become happy to just be there instead of winning it. Its something Iv wondered if its part of our culture.

I think Jack used to say "winning isnt everything, its the only thing"
