the bloke was a centre who behaved like his "namesake" when he signed a contract while he was still under contract with the bears, the bears from memory threaten to take him to court and he backed down.

I can see a few situations:

They signed him and he was injured
he retired
or he had already signed elsewhere

I am hoping he is high profile because I was only born in 1980 so the lesser known players I will not remember.
