Chin up RB

Our 1st family dog, a Corgi, died at 17 of bowl cancer and our 2nd, a GS/Ridgeback died last year at 14 of a stroke. I was gutted by both

My wife and I have 2 of our own now, staffys aged 4 and 1, and we are dreading the day they pack it in.

I will be a dog owner for the rest of my life though. The pain of losing them is far outweighed by the pure awesomeness of having them in your life

Oh yeah, it's tough when they go but the many years of joy are worth it. I'm sure my parents will get another dog after a few months off

I feel your pain mate. Lost our old girl (14) about 18 months ago. It's bloody sad when they go.

My dog Joe was an early 6th birthday present, we lost him once when he was a puppy but found him about 2 hours later down the road. I had bad dreams about Joe running away after that. I remember when I was about 7 I had this dream where he went missing and I kept looking for him and then at the very end I found him and I was calling out for him to come back but he just walked off into the sunset (The sun was setting in my dream!) I woke up crying and my stepdad had to take me out to the garage where Joe slept just so I'd realise it was a dream. He went missing again for 3 days in March '95, I remember the panic thinking that maybe he got lost in the bush and starved to death or was hit by a car somewhere far away. We put missing dog notices up and after a day these blokes called and said he'd just come up and started hanging around them.

By the start of 2005 he was old and mangy and nearly totally deaf, at the start of February I moved away to the Gold Coast for uni and as I patted him goodbye I thought that this could be the last time I ever saw him. It turned out I was right. He was put down in May of that year and I couldn't even take him to the vet because I was 800kms away. I feel guilty that I don't even know the day he died.

I'm not quite fat yet. If I keep going though, I will be a porker! I have definitely packed on the weight though, I've put on about 6-7kgs since I got here even with eating okay for most of it. I blame it on winter and not having a job or any motivation whatsoever!! I start my new job soon though and I'm gonna be constantly on the go and I should be okay then!!!
