You can put as much makeup on the stats as you like but the facts are Souths crowds are no better than any other team. What's the excuse for 1989 when there wasn't a match of the day at the SCG? And leave Easts out of this. This is not about our crowds, It's all about the stupid notion that Souths attract huge crowds when they are winning which as I've clearly shown is a load of BS.
Souths do attract good crowds when winning, but it was never stated that the crowds were great during the 80's, as they weren't for ANY Sydney clubs. How about you look at the 1989 crowds in perpspective though? Why didn't you take note of the fact that only 4 games in Sydney that year drew higher crowds than Souths 2 best attended home games? (Parra x 2, Balmain 1, Dogs 1).
When next the Roosters drop down the ladder (it may be soon) perhaps you should check how fast your crowds fall away. You'll see the current strength of Souths in that it has a great base from which to work on. We now have a rock bottom of 8,500 fans to call upon in tough times. The Roosters on the other hand will quickly fade towards 5000 and lower when things get tough. Souths had some fickle support in the past, but with a hint of irony our exclusion has given steel to Souths resolve and that fickle Rooster style of support is no longer a major issue for our club. Your club on the other hand is probably a season or two away from your McDonalds coupon scheme. I wouldn't be surprised if your shitty club started to indoctrinate foreign refugees before their release, because you sure as hell are going to need them before too long.
What
HAS been stated (are you paying attention cogburn??) is that Souths
WILL draw large crowds when they start winning. This fact has little to do with the past as you seem to think. The supporter base has changed, had to examine itself and it now is more proactive. You're an absolute goose if you can't see that, but hey - you are anyway!
You can twist what has been said as much as you like, but you're still trying to argue a point that few people would disagree with if placed in perspective.
You're such a pedantic "glass half full" type aren't you.
