Well i wont suggest any punk rock musicians as it'd just be scorned (altho el hefe from NoFX is an excellent musician, not top 5 but excellent none the less).

Prince

Johnny Cash

Michael Jackson (OK, technically he's not a true "musician"...But he has to be one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever)

1. John Lennon ... all those who think McCartney comes close is a fool. However they made a great team. It was John who expanded their ideas, and Paul was good for the boring mainstream sh*t that made them dollars. Yes i know im over-simplifying ... they are both great in their own right, but John wrote the better stuff BY FAR.

2. Jimi Hendrix ... without Jimi there is no blues-rock crossover. Think about it. He really should be number 1, he inspired far more guitarists than anyone else.

3. Jim Morrison ... the best voice and best lyric songwriter ive EVER heard. A Genius. How many people that you hear today, can seriously match his voice ? None.

4. Robert Johnson ... a blues artist from MANY years ago. This guy was sooo good, they believed him to be a devil-worshipper. Strange, but true.

5. Johnny Cash ... The Man in Black. Loved EVERY style of music, a legend without many peers.

Now Rick Wright actually had a bigger imput than Gilmour , he soley wrote ( the classic ) The great gig in the sky and co-wrote Breathe , Time , Us and Them and Any colour you like.

Tivia time. Rick Wright no longer gets sole credit for GGITS, Clare Tory now gets a writing credit, she took the band to court, sued them and won. Turns out she ad-libed the vocals on GGITS, Floyd just said to her, go in there and sing along, and that's what she came up with. She apologised when she came out of the sound booth and said something like "I'm sure I can do better", Floyd were just in awe.

Eric Clapton?

Plus in some Jimi videos I've seen he is horribly out of time.

Let's just say everyone in Dream Theater alongside Vinnie Colaiuta and be done with it.

Except IMO their songs are sh*t.

Doesn't matter how well you can play when your music sucks and your singer is a whiny bitch.

Can't disagree with the whiny bitch comment.

Ironically, his best vocal performance is on Ayreon's The Human Equation.

Anyway, DT are very hot and cold and there are some albums I just can't listen to but when they get it right - such as A Change of Seasons - they're stunning.

We finally agree on something:lol: . Totally agree! lennon was distinctive, clever, inivative, incorperated lifestyle/enviromental uncertainty in his songs.

John Lennon hits-Imagine, Instant Karma, Give peace a chance
Mc Cartney-Band on the run lol

2 words-Chuck Berry

I have to admit i was listening to Triple M yesterday and Touch me came on, for a second there i just listened to his voice, not the lyrics....which i never have really done before with him and i have to admit he had a wonderful deep voice. Lyrically he was also pretty solid, but he never really mastered anything else.

Dave Grohl lol

your kidding, what a crack up

Why? he's a very accomplished musician. Played drums and back up vocals for one fo the biggest bands of all time in Nirvana, setup his own band Foo Fighters and played every instrument aswell as sung on many Foo Fighters songs.

If that isn't complete i don't know what is?

Doesn't mean he is any good at any of them.

c'mon Dev ,
Grohl is a good drummer and I reckon he is no slouch on the guitar.

Hey he's no Moginie but he goes alright for a drummer.

I think he's a better frontman and guitarist than he was a drummer.

The Foo Fighters I quite like for a pop-rock band and yes, he seems like a good bloke.

But you know my thoughts on Nirvana and one of the reasons why is because there is nothing in the music that makes me go "Wow".

I do appreciate the emotion in some of their music though and I do like Lithium.

But give me Alice in Chains any day.
