I'm sure this has all been covered, but after watching that game I really need to vent:
- This season was always a bit of a write off once the Sharks decided they didn't want Morris, but they should still have been aiming for a finals position (even a worthless one). They have the easiest draw coming into the final rounds, but its hard to seem them taking advantage of it based on the last few weeks.
- The non-existent defensive line speed is incredibly frustrating to watch. They take two steps forward, and then wait. This leads to poor first contact, leading to more missed tackles and tackles that allow the tackled player to get up quickly. Teams are taking advantage of this, and the Sharks have offered nothing to change this.
- Even with the line speed being what it is, Woods is always behind the line, never wanting to be first in the tackle, over commits laterally and then just plainly refuses to readjust. He is the softest and laziest player I can remember. It has become even worse once he was told he was unwanted. Second half he refused to even run the ball (though I'm not too upset with that because screw him).
- Fifita is done, and the Sharks can not keep gifting him games anymore. He simply offers nothing in his 10 minutes of game time.
- Trindall and Tracey can not run a game. They offer little questions to defensive lines, and are plagued with brain snaps (like kicking on the second tackle). Tracey is an OK centre, but is not a first grade half. Trindall looks rushed and panicked on every play, which leads to him just making poor decisions. I'm really concerned with 2022 when we need a strong half to guide the team and allow Hynes to play his game.
- Ramien would be great if he could catch a ball running a line. Unfortunately, he can only catch a pass when virtually standing still. He is great at pushing of players and breaking tackles, but they don't advantage the team at all. They never lead to line breaks, extra ground, or a quick play the ball.
- Hannay has shown he has no coaching instincts or strategic play. Why have Metcalf play 3 minutes, when he could have offered more, especially when we had an extra man? Why move Talaki to the right side of the field and almost exclusively use him as a decoy when he looked damaging running on the left in the first half.
- Tolman offers nothing, but I'd take him over Woods and Fifita. That says a lot.
- Thank god for Will Kennedy. At least I can enjoy seeing him play, but he has been the sole dangerous attacking look over the last few weeks.
- Brailey puts in a lot of effort defensively, not hard when Woods is half-assing it next to him. I thought he looked good running to take advantage of markers not being set, however there are never options for him. This is where Kennedy needs to improve.
- I think 2022 will see the team struggle for attack with no halfback, so I really hope Fitzgibbon can get the awful defence sorted.
