Heard a rumour today that Perry, and Buderus didn't train. Hopefully Hages gave them time off to give some niggling injuries a rest

The Knights yesterday signed former Manly and Northern Eagles prop Grant Wooden and Bathurst St Patrick's back-rower Kurt Hancock. Prop Josh Perry (hip) remains in doubt for tomorrow's game, while Daniel Abraham's inclusion on the bench in place of Reegan Tanner was confirmed yesterday.

Robbie O'Davis may have played the last match in his 15-year career after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone in Sunday's loss to Manly. Forward Matt Kennedy (knee) is out for the season, while prop Matt Parsons (thigh/back) and second-rower Clint Newton (groin) are in doubt for Friday night's match against the Dragons and Josh Perry (hip) is rated only a 50-50 chance. Skipper Danny Buderus has an infected toe.

Matthew Kennedy (knee) sidelined for the rest of the season, Reegan Tanner returns to the bench for Friday night's encounter with St George Illawarra. Aside from that, coach Michael Hagan has decided to gamble on naming in-doubt Matt Parsons (thigh/back), Robbie O'Davis (jaw) and Clint Newton (groin).

Knights Big Men to Return for Bulldogs Clash

Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - Newcastle Knights

Knights’ coach Michael Hagan has named returning props Josh Perry and Matt Parsons in his team to tackle the Bulldogs at Telstra Stadium on Friday night.

Perry has missed two games with a hip injury, while Matt Parsons did not play in last week’s two-point loss to the Dragons after suffering a corked thigh the previous round against Manly.

Missing from last week’s team is interchange player Luke Quigley who has suffered rib cartilage damage, and Clint Newton who has not been named in the side pending his judiciary hearing tomorrow night.

Speaking today, Test centre Matthew Gidley said last week’s loss, and the return of some senior players, would bolster the team’s chances of victory over the high-flying Bulldogs.

“There is no doubt that the Bulldogs have been the outstanding team over the last two months,” he said.

“During the same period we have suffered from a big injury toll and have not been able to put our best form on the field week-in, week-out.”

“But despite all that we have a chance on Friday to continue what we started last week – to build up some credibility at the business end of the season.”

“If we can play at our best I’m confident we can get the job done. We will certainly need to it we are going to remain in the semi final race for the final week against the Tigers.”

The team will not train on Wednesday before travelling and conducting their final training session in Sydney on Thursday.

NEWCASTLE

Forward Steve Simpson (broken jaw) is an outside chance of making a return tomorrow night against the Bulldogs after playing just three matches this season. Fullback Mark Hughes may also be a late inclusion after scoring three tries since his comeback in premier league two weeks ago.

It would be mad if Simmo could play!
