I wouldnt say Louis ck was cancelled in the traditional sense. He quit comedy temporarily over allegations of sexual impropriety that he copped and is now back performing.
Ansari addressed the allegations on a netflix comedy special so again not exactly cancelled.
Roseanne is probably the best example of someone who was cancelled but Disney did the same thing to James Gunn. They just dont want controversy. Disney especially doesnt want any controversy with ABC because it barely makes them a cent relatively. Remember Disney hired Gunn for his edgy sense of humour, then fired him and hired him back. There is a more interesting conversation over corporate control of culture and our every day life than one on some screeching clod on twitter. Most culture warriors miss the forest for the trees here.
Remember when pol was trying to get teflon man Dan Harmon fired and cartoon network was like nah we like his edgy sense of humour so pound sand geniuss. Thats been the result of the vast majority of cancellings. I can think of a few very specific cases where a comic has for some bizarre reason chased after humourless scolds and its turned out they are a male feminist (or rapist for short) and that audience has f**ked off. Most people arent dumb enough to appeal to woke idiots though
Interesting Colin kaepernick is seldom mentioned as an example of someone who was cancelled
Once again, it would depend on what your definition of being "cancelled" actually is.
I see cancel culture as being concerted efforts by organised groups to interfere in the employment, the ability to gain employment or the ability to go about their normal business/professional activities of individuals who have failed some kind of purity test. Obviously how successful those efforts are and the longevity is going to depend on a number of different factors. James Gunn, for instance, was obvious retaliation by Mike Cernovich for what happened to Roseanne. Nobody was truly offended over anything he said and Disney's kneejerk firing was a complete overreaction, which is why it was so easy for him to come back. Louis CK didn't just quit comedy, he lost a bunch of television and film contacts in the immediate aftermath of the allegations made against him.
The Dixie Chicks are a great example of people getting cancelled over some shit they said. They were blacklisted all over radio and television, but they eventually came back when nobody gave a shit anymore. To a lesser degree, so is Kathy Griffin.
Colin Kaepernick ended up with a multi-million dollar Nike contract, so was he really cancelled by your definition? He was by mine, but you seem to have a different take on it. What makes him different?
