Because if funding for the Qld Cup is provided by the QRL, why aren't Toowoomba asking the Qrl for the cash and the "best interests of the game"?

The QRL fund the Hostplus cup clubs, from funding from the NRL. The issue seems to be the QRL were expecting the NRl to increase that funding to cover the $350k extra outlay, and they have refused, and in fact gone full on into bat with telling Toowoomba that their participations 'isnt in the best interests of the game'. Either thats a very poorly worded response from Abdo or he needs to clarify why they think that.

Which the NRL give them to run the Pathways.

A team in the country with no link to any NRL side, isn't for the pathways.

Are you saying there should not be any NSw cup or Hostplus cup club in the comps unless they are feeding an NRL club? Im pretty sure that isnt in the rules or regs of admission to those comps.
Especially as the likes of the Hunters have been around a decade and only just signed up with the Dolphins this year, this is their first year back and its rumored they were going to be reconnecting with Broncos after they lost Devils to Redcliffe.

Are you suggesting that if reserve grade comes in all these clubs should be cut lose and left to wither away with no funding?

These are the same people that have defended Abdo and Vlandys after more than $40mill has been slashed out of grassroots funding. But hey, we've got Vegas and gambling baby.

Because it isn't their job to fund every team in the country. It is up to the bodies below the NRL to do so.

QRL get $20m a year
NSW get $20m a year to fund their pathway competitions.

the clubs get $5m over the cap, to fund their junior programs.

That is $125m a year the NRL spends on the next tier down. So lets no act like clubs are poor

I sense, like the failed court battles with the NSWRL, this is NRL flexing for a fight with QRL. They have had a stoush over Cowboys and Titans entry and now Clydesdales entry. Not sure what they are trying to gain but theres clearly something behind it.
If theres one thing Vlandys excels at, its antagonizing people.

What Pathway does the side lead too?

They are pretty much paying a few old country guys to play footy.

As opposed to funding players as they move through to the NRL. Money is better spent ensuring there are referees, grounds to play on etc.

I think the point you’re trying to make is they don’t currently have a feeder agreement with an NRL club? That’s just a matter of a time, this was only their first season back so one of the SEQ clubs will link with them in the next few years I’d imagine as the Broncos did in the past.

Not every area is big enough for an NRL team but these clubs generally have strong ties in the community and do plenty for grassroots in their areas. But sure let’s ditch Toowoomba and by that logic Mackay, Rockhampton and Cairns aren’t what’s best for the game either. That will somehow improve grassroots and facilities in those areas.

and say Wagga

All put teams in NSW Cup but wanted them to be funded by ARLC?

As opposed to those areas being funded to run their local competitions?
