It doesn't make sense that a Yr1 game in the USA is going to be making millions in profit.

And to be fair to the NRL they haven't claimed that it would either.

I mean why don't we have double headers every weekend here, if they are so lucrative.
It's not an " Event " if it's every week.
The same reason we don't have the ekka every weekend..
Do you know what the deal is with Fox in the USA? The gambling deal? The local sponsorship? Are the local government contributing?
There's a lot of reasons for it to be profitable. Does it need to be? No do we know if it will be? No

After 5 years is the only time to really assess it financially because that's the time we are " investing ".

It does seem unlikely but if it fills out, that around 2 million at the gate, then there's tv revenue, gambling revenue, sponsorship ect. We can't discount the tv revenue slice that is in Australia either. Cost and earnings can be debated but I would say the revenue would be somewhere between 3 to 6 million and the cost once you figure that sponsors are picking up the flights and accommodation mostly can't be that high. It's the stadium rent is the main cost right? Anyone have that?

Rent is cheaper because the event is open to stadium members

Event games do that.

Take Magic Round, Perth double header. If they were every week people don't fly. Sponsors aren't as keen

I know none of this.

I'd be suprised if Fox is paying extra on the current TV deal for it though.

Happy to be corrected if someone has info on this

It really is gold for gambling agents in the USA. Starting 2 weeks after Super bowl and playing late in the evening for young punters- pure gold.
It's a win for the NRL too because having a little skin in the game will actually help capture an audience ( having a horse in the race)
It's all there.

If anybody knows the gambling market it’s pvl

he’s made Aussie bookies pay premium rates for nsw racing and origin and grand finals

both nsw racing and nrl making close to ten million extra pa from the premium gaming tax

How do you make OS companies pay is the trick.

That's harder and they are less motivated.
