Hmm... and interesting people Bennett associates himself with. But hey ... it's not about the $$$ with Wayne ... just loyalty.

It makes me sick that the Broncos have a team of boosters behind them which everyone knows about (they even have an official name for their booster group FFS), and they get away with it. What's funny is they can't win a premiership even with the boosters.

$9990 a month in booster cash...$10 under the threshold lol.

Good on Bennett for standing his ground. He has ALWAYS said he wanted to be there for 2019 and he is staying put.

He had talks with the Tigers and both the Tigers and Bennett have said that the only sticking point is that the Tigers wanted/needed him for 2019 and that he couldnt do that. Tigers went a different way with Madge as a result.

Souffs sign him for 2020 but want him now anyway ( The Gus maneouvre) and he sticks his dig.

Its nice to see someone mean what they say. Rare.

Hang on mate. Souths signed Bennett because they knew Seibold was leaving the joint. He stalled on signing an extension and was interviewed by the Broncos. A coach with his mind firmly at his incumbent club wouldn't have accepted the latter.

In any other sport, in any other circumstance, these two would already be at their 2020 clubs for the 2019 prep. Souths expected it, and Brisbane expected it. The problem is Brisbane assumed Bennett would ask for a release (and no payout) / and they don't want to be seen as merkins for firing their only premiership and longest-serving coach (and incurring a pay-out).

In financial terms if they sack coaches, the difference for Souths is $500k ($900k they'll pay Bennett vs Seibold's $400k).

For Brisbane it's greater - $2m ($1.1m for Bennett plus $900k for Seibold). But Brisbane will also look like absolute merkins for punting the arguably the greatest coach in the game.

I disagree, which is kind of my whole point.

Good decision to sign Bennett given Seibold is leaving but Bennett has been screaming from the rooftops for over a year now that he wasnt going to leave Brisbane early. Last season when there was a lot of speculation that Brisbane wanted to move him on, he said "No, Im seeing my contract out". When the Tigers tried to sign him, both parties have said in interviews the sticking point was the Bennett is seeing out his contract for 2019. So I can't see how the hell Souths "expected" anything different as Bennett has said over and over that he is seeing out his contract at the Broncos. Im sure Souths want him early, but seriously he couldnt have made it any clearer.

Thats my point, he has said time and time again that he is seeing out his contract at the Broncos. Quite refreshing to see someone say what they mean and stick to their word. Reinforces my opinion of the bloke.

You must have come down in the last shower.

Bennett is contracted to receive $1.1m from Brisbane in 2019. that's why he's sticking it out. he has a couple of disabled kids so can't blame him for that. brisbane need to sack him to him to effect the transition. ego is at play here. White doesn't want to pay him, Bennett doesn't want to give him a 'get out of jail free' card.

Pretty sure one of them has a decent paying job at a special needs organisation and doesn’t need much financial support.

Quite possibly, but I didnt question his motives, just made the point that he has MANY times said he is staying at the Broncos....and it seems he is, and good on him for it.

Courier-mail reporting the Seibold Bennett swap will be announced tomorrow.

Except Bennett wants no part of it. Lol

I know its confronting in the NRL to see someone honouring the terms of the their contract, but there is a certain nobility to someone actually doing that.

He is of course daring the Broncos to fire him, in which case he gets the souths money and the broncos money this year. Good business

Seibold says goodbye to the players, packs his bags for Brisbane, find out Wayne’s staying then swears at reporters whilst in Souths training gear :joy::joy::joy:

Im not shy in giving the Tigers a kick up the ass for bad decisions....but they handled the coaching situation this year beautifully. Great theatre watching this Bris/Souths circus.

Think I’m going into hibernation for the 2019 NRL season. We are going to be absolute shot ducks the way this is all panning out. See you all in 2020.

Can get even better if Souths get sick of the circus and tell Wayne they'd like to go in a different direction next year.

Simply delicious.
