The Lurker - Brett Morris

From my observations of Bmoz he has not shown the speed and explosiveness he displayed years ago. Not sure if it was due to a bad run of injuries? If that's the case and it maybe he could rediscover some good form but it would be a gamble still and it's more than likely he wouldn't be an upgrade on what we already have and therefore be a waste of money. That's how I see it anyway

https://wwos.nine.com.au/2017/09/18/11/57/nrl-2017-news-cronulla-sharks-set-to-pounce-on-origin-star

Cronulla have opened secret negotiations with Bulldogs and State of Origin wing star Brett Morris.

With Canterbury in massive salary cap strife, the Bulldogs need to offload players - and Morris is high on their list.

The flying flanker will be on around $700,000 next season - big money for a winger - and the Dogs will pay part of his way to Cronulla if a deal is struck.

Morris’ manager has already started informal talks with the Sharks.

The Sharks see Morris as a potential answer to their fullback problems in 2018.

Specialist winger Valentine Holmes inherited Ben Barba’s number one jersey this season and while he was solid, he was not spectacular.

Morris - who has over 100 tries to his name and is renowned as one of the best finishers in the game - has played fullback at times in his career and looked right at home.

The Bulldogs have already released star prop James Graham to St George Illawarra but are still in cap trouble due to a series of heavily back-ended contracts.

I wonder if the gummies think he is worth "fullback money?"

He is good for about 3 or 4 games a season tops at fullback and then he breaks down...

Never once did I refer to Nightingale as a "nice guy" nor is that a criteria for playing FG.
Maybe we shouldn've signed him for another year but then again we should not have signed McGregor either.
I would be completely supportive of a coach that really knows what he's doing and who has the balls to make decisions like retiring Nightingale.
My support for Nightingale comes mostly from the point of view that there is nothing on the horizon that I see better.
There may be a ready made solution in the lower grades but how will we ever be able to assess that if they don't get game time in FG?
I am totally frustrated with the way McGregor selects and structures his backline.
Nightingale may not be greatest winger on the planet but I see the effort he puts in every single week even when the team is playing like shit.
You just can't help but to respect him.
Maybe that makes my position a little clearer.

It does for me. There may be some reluctance to sign a winger good enough to replace both current players when they resigned one and the other is only in his second season.

anyone wanting Morris back is an absolute idiot.

In 3 seasons at the dogs he has plated 45 from 75 games 60% of games played which puts him well below the likes of Dugan who apparently is always injured.

In that time he has scored 25 tries .. He scored that many for us in a single season in 2009

He, along with Nightingale represent the old guard, the past, the blokes who were absolute champions but offer no future to us.

To analyse it even more
In that 45 games he has played 25 games on the wing for 13 tries - roughly 50% strike rate
in a similar time Kurt Mann has played 13 games on the wing for 12 tries - roughly 100% strike rate.

Added to that Mann last year racked up more tackle breaks, more line breaks, more tries, more tackles .. And he did that playing less minutes due to the idiots use of the bench.

Mann is easily the best option for Left Wing at the Dragons

So obviously for many in this place there is no way we will or should ever have a Cottric, Mitchell, Auva'a, Vinavalu, Gela Mosby, Ponga, Edwards, Cleary, Hess, Crichton, or the likes in our 1st grade side unless we by them from another club when they are 23 or older.
The shameful insistence that everything outside the club including has beens, never was's, code deserters, is better just mortifies me.
With all the names being bandied around that we should get we are like drug attics looking for a quick fix.
No doubt Mc Fookknuckle probably subscribes to the chaotic nature of recruitment that people allude to in the various threads as he cannot see that building strong foundations within our ranks has any merit either.
Honestly how can our future be in buying 30+ or even 32 year olds on contracts of up to 3 years?
Buy B Moz insanity at its best.
Your right! 2018 is the season our young guns will get a run and if the likes of Lomax and Herbert shine, they will be there for many seasons to come. Forget about Morris, it won't be as it was.

In my opinion Mary should select our backline on pre-season form and make adjustments accordingly each game, based on form.

There is a dude called the Lurker who thinks he knows his stuff around player movements and stuff and he said that Saints are interested in Brett Morris if the Dogs pay a fair chunk of his salary.

Bulldogs and Saints may be interested but is he after kissing the scums badge and slamming the Saints when he left?

Would be interesting if he does come back but you would highly doubt it. Plus if he did, would you swap him with McDonald? Nighty cause Nighty ain't going nowhere.

We still have one space in nrl squad to fill.
So there is a chance.
But as you say does he really want to come back

If it is available at a discounted price , has a medical & is totally committed for 2 years , bloody oath. Still has a lot to give and don't think he has lost much if any speed at all ( olympic spinters at winning medals at 32-35 years of age ) but again dependent on what it costs our cap.It certainly won't be a marquee signing.

If he did come back it had better be at a very heavily discounted price, the only realistic way I'd even consider it is if he came back with that blue & white tail planted firmly between his legs.
