hahaha!! this is waaay out of left field but... they could give him a seat in the stands next to the worst fans.... have a bulletproof bubble over it... he would have to sit through 4 years of first hand abuse from the fans...

youd probably be right... but id hate to get on the bad side of SAF....

and to be fair... Ronaldo owes SAF & Man Utd abit... he brought him over from sporting and pretty much developed him into what he is today... not to mention the club and the fans got right behind him after WC06 when everyone in england hated his guts... i hope he remembers that before he bags the club off in public...

and you guys probably owe him a league title, so does that make it even? ;-)

Name those that were the calibre of Ronaldo. I'd rather he rot in the stands for the remainder of his contract than see the club let him stroll out the front door.

Now, doubt, but Keane and Beckham, at one point WERE Man united, and Ruud was a huge player for you. Seems like SAF has been willing to cut cancers from your club in the past, but is making an exception in this case?

All 3 aren't and weren't on the same level as Ronaldo and bloke is only 23. Ruud may have been a goal-scoring freak when he was at the club but we weren't very successful during his stint at the club by our high standards, especially in comparison to the Ronaldo era. He's probably the best player Fergie has had during his time at United so he should be fighting tooth and nail to keep him.

SAF has already gone into bat over Ronaldo before after it looked like he was ready to leave. think it was after the World Cup he seemed to make plenty of noise about not wanting to return to England and was linked to Real at that stage. this was coupled with his 'wink' after Rooney was sent off and it seemed for all money that Ronaldo would be gone.

SAF obviously holds him very high. the players that he has moved on previously had entered the later stages of their careers and were probably looked upon as expendable by SAF. Ronaldo is a different case entirely due to his age and the potential that he still has to realise, despite what he has already achieved.

will be very interesting to see what transpires, but i think fish eel might be pretty close to the mark with his ummation of what will occur!

I wasnt saying those guys were as good as Ronaldo, rather, they were Man United. Beckham was the 'golden child', so to speak, bend it like beckham and all that hype. Roy Keane was the cog that drove the engine to how many titles? Terribly important Man U personalities on and off the field.

how do we owe him a league title??? hes won plenty with us... if anything... he owes us about 3 league titles after we stuck with him when he was going through the all style no substance phase of his career and we werent winning anything...

And yet at the end of the day all were expendable as much as it pains me to say that about Keane. Fergie knows that having a player of Ronaldo's ability and potential on the books is very very rare.

I heard Ronaldo is going to have a meeting with Man U management.

I think he'll walk is and say he wants to leave, Man U will say stiff sh*t we're not selling, and Ronaldo will walk out and say he never wanted leave, he loves man united and the fans.
You'll be right on the money. We'll basically sit him down and tell him we will sell him in two seasons times (although if he holds out too much he might get the move next season), but it won't happen now. It'll basically be an unnofficial backroom deal.

And anyone who thinks Ronaldo would go on strike doesn't know him. He loves football too much to not play it for 12 months, he loves the attention too much to not be out there playing, he loves himself too much to not be out there proving he's the best, and he loves (or at least respects and likes) Man Utd and his team-mates too much to sit around doing nothing while they are out busting their arse. If he doesn't get his move, he'll still be out on the field doing his best.

Ronaldo and United at odds over Real transfer

The battle of wills between Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United looks set to continue for some time as the in-demand winger signalled his intention to 'take advantage of a great opportunity' - just hours after the club insisted any offers for the player will fall on deaf ears.

The double winners felt obliged yesterday to post a 'not for sale' notice on their club website as speculation - fanned by the player's own comments immediately after Portugal's exit from Euro 2008 - increased about his future.

However, the player has now gone even further by claiming he will follow the example of his national team boss Luiz Felipe Scolari and seize a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Scolari will take over at Chelsea next month having decided midway through the country's European Championship campaign he wanted to move back into club management.

And Ronaldo said he cannot pass up a 'great opportunity'.

'It [moving to Real] is a dream, a step forward, you can call it what you want,' he said in The Times.

'For me it is a great opportunity and, as Scolari says, that train passes by only once and we have to take advantage of it.

'That is why he took advantage of his change. Other people have to take advantage of opportunities, too.'

Asked whether he was concerned his actions would upset United manager Sir Alex Ferguson the winger added: 'It is my opinion. That is why I don't mind if people get upset.

'It is my decision. It is what I want. I don't know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think.'

Ronaldo's United contract runs until 2012 and the club are anxious to dissuade any possible suitors.

The statement on their website, yesterday said: 'Further to Friday's press speculation about where Cristiano Ronaldo's future lies, the club has moved to reiterate its stance on the matter: United are not listening to offers.'

Just as mysterious as Ronaldo's future appears to be, so does a foot problem last season's 42-goal scorer has suffered.

After Portugal exited Euro 2008 this week, Ronaldo claimed he needed an immediate operation as he had been troubled by the injury for three months.

He intimated that he would liaise with United's medical team in the next few days.

Portuguese Football Federation spokesman Onofre Costa told PA Sport: 'Ronaldo has already said he had an injury a couple of months ago.

'But the federation cannot confirm or deny that he's going to have surgery. It is down to his club or the player to decide.'

Real Madrid have made no secret of their desire to sign Ronaldo with United reporting the Spanish club to world governing body FIFA over what they considered attempts to unsettle the player.

Yet despite United's determination to keep their star player, Ronaldo has refused to confirm his commitment to the club since speculation over his future began soon after last month's Champions League final.

if this story is true then i cant see him staying on happily.... its pretty sad as a united supporter to hear him talking about going to real as a step forward.... imo i honestly think Man United are the greatest club in the world. weve supported him througn alot of crap... i ask you this... if he did what he did in WC06 to Raul to knock spain out of the world cup do you think the madrid fans would be as forgiving??

United: Ronaldo 'not for sale'

Further to Friday’s press speculation about where Cristiano Ronaldo’s future lies, the club has moved to reiterate its stance on the matter: United are not listening to offers.

Ronaldo has continually been linked with a move to Spanish side Real Madrid this summer.

However, the club reaffirmed its position to ManUtd.com on Friday morning. And the message is simple: the 23-year-old United star is “not for sale”.

After watching Holland-Russia last night, ManU should, as Andy Townsend said, sell Ronaldo for 70 million pound and buy Andrei Arshavin for 25 million pound.

He is one awesome player. In a year or two he'll be just as good as Ronaldo. Freaking awesome, awesome, awesome.

Athough given the Russian connection and blank chequebook, what odds he ends up at Chelsea? Either way i want to see this star in the Premier League.

We'll get him, if he is for sale. I've read that Arsenal are a chance too?

Should sign both Arshavin and Pavyulchenko, both look like absolute class... my interest in Arshavin came before this tournament and he has only continued to impress, Arshavin is a very special talent and he has what Ronaldo doesn't... heart!
