Anyone notice his lack of muscle tone and explosive speed it looks like conditioning is well down and that may have played a part in his bad year. Out of position, unfit, lacking speed, poor coaching. All these factors can be turned around have faith.

For all the talk about Benji having a poor season it is forgotten that he did chalk up 30 try assist for the year. The only player who produced more over the regular season was Cooper Cronk. If he produces those numbers in a bad year, what will he do in a good year? In 2011 he lost the Dally M by a single point to Billy Slater, and in 2010 he won the Golden Boot. Whilst I maintain that Farah is the most important player in this team, Benji is a close second.

Marshall stats concerning try assist are a credit to him,the problem however this season apart from being out of position, was his defence and reluctance to run the ball or get tackled, dare i say it Moltzen like at times.

Marshall plays his best football at 6. He played all year at 7 and it didn't work. Let him play at 6 under a new coach before you want to move him on, there's a good chance he will have a proper 7 inside of him 2013.

Its this simple.

Benji's win % by Position

Centre - 3 games @ 33.33%
Five-Eighth - 130 games @ 59.23%
Halfback - 42 games @ 45.23%
Bench - 4 games @ 50% (1 game was as fullback (1 win), 3 as five-eighth (1 win & 2 losses))

I just don't understand some fans I really don't same goes with the hate hayne gets in the eels forum as well at times.

One week you call him a hero and the best player in the world and then next week you dont even want him at the club anymore.

World class player = benji - he can not be on form when the team is not in form and when he is played out of position at 7.

Benji is a match winner and he can do stuff on the field that very few can or maybe no one can with his vision and creativity.

Benji has just lost motivation i think and a new year and a new coach im sure he will be back to his best.

Is he carrying an injury? or is it a lack of confidence, but his defence again was ordinary during the test as is his technique.

When you don't get consequences for not putting in you dont change.

Scott Prince is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen but he still puts in and doesn't go and hide on the wing in defence

Benji burst onto the scenes with blistering speed and step that nobody had ever witnessed before and he would back himself to pull off 100/1 plays. As the years rolled on the speed disappeared and unlike other great players his other skills have not improved to compensate. He is still a wonderful player but never can he be put in with the likes of Fitler,Johns,Lockyer or Thurston

he has one shit year and you all want to throw him to the dogs.

True.

Last year leading up to finals Marshall was ripping it harder than a virgin on her wedding night. The year before that he almost took us to the grand final.

True.

Has anyone considered the fact that he may have had no choice where he was played and how he played?

I agree. Benji isn't the coach and he has much less say on the club than a lot of the morons on here state.

In saying that it is beside the point - he had a shit year and it is his fault not Sheens.

It will be interesting to see how he adapts to change, with a new coach, wedding in January and new team mates.Hopefully he will return to what he is capable of but for this to happen i feel he has to get himself fitter than he has even been before.

To all those jumping on the bandwagon of Marshall having a dud 2012; you have absolutely no idea.

Marshall played most of the year at 7. It has been said many times before, but some people don't listen; Marshall is a world class 6. He is not a 7. Never will be, end of story.

Playing 7 required him to play first receiver & direct the team, which is not his strength. Even so, most games he was our only player on the field who posed a threat, mainly due to our outside backs being way out of form & down on confidence. Sheens (& some fans) simply expected him to do everything.

If he is guilty of anything, it was trying too hard. In fact, in the last game against Storm, he was constantly running back & forth, switching sides of the ruck as he was our only playmaker. Most teams have a reasonable 9, 7, 6 & 1, we don't. Both Marshall & Farah are often trying to compensate for this, which leads to them being criticised.

Sure, he missed his far share of tackles, but here's a scoop - the stats each week show that all he smaller 6 & 7's get plenty of traffic & get found out. Yes, even Thurston - fact.

Get over yourselves.

Yeah like in 2010 and 2011.....played really crap. Which is why he won Golden Boot and then almost Dally M the next year. No skill whatsover....none

I would laugh my ass off if we absolutely ripped it next year and all the players were attributing it to playing out of positions this year and gaining some sort of insight into how the rest of their team played.

In all honesty I think alot has to do with the Tigers being labelled the "Random" team. By this I mean that we are the team that are thoroughly entertaining to watch because you never know what crazy strategy we will be coming up with. I think that Sheens took this too far and tried to build a team based around this. Our randomness came from Benji playing at 5/8 and doing something crazy. That is it. Not the entire team being stupid. Just Benji coming in and striking hard with creativity when he is needed.

I hope that the new coach offers a solid, straightforward strategy that requires a huge level of fitness. I agree with previous posts that many of our boys did not look First Grade fit. Moltzen, Marshall, Lawrence, Blair, Tiquiri (lol), Ayshford all looked like they were not strong enough to be on the field.

Bullshit. He looked great at 7 more than once.

Playing 7 required him to play first receiver & direct the team, which is not his strength. Even so, most games he was our only player on the field who posed a threat, mainly due to our outside backs being way out of form & down on confidence. Partly true - we had some very poor performances in our outside backs - I think that is the no 1 area where we need to improve.

Your 100% right, he had 2 cracker games at 7 this year.

OK, but how many games in a season? His consistency is sh*t at present. Immaterial of him being able to make an good game at 1/2 (I say only occassionally but thats my opinion) do you and Tiger05 say he is a better 1/2 than 5/8? Most people I think would say 5/8. Why try to change that? In my opinion again, he is a better 5/8 than 1/2 so for f### sake play him at 5/8.
