100% agree...

And TBH... Frankie has done enough to be Aldo's next challenger.

But it comes down to dollars and cents... The UFC stand to make five times as much from Aldo v McGregor I than Aldo v Edgar II.

In an ideal world where money doesn't matter... Frankie would fight for the title and Mendez v McGregor would be co-main.

Connors hype sells PPV's... Him losing to a wrestler reduces that hype and literally costs the UFC millions.

They are striking while the iron is hot...
Don't get me wrong I can see the promotional side of things but to put him against a 36 year old Dennis Siver as a qualification bout like really, the Poirier fight was a step in the right direction but to go from fighting the 6th rank guy to the 10th ranked guy makes no sense, it's going backwards

money talks and with Jon Jones looking at being away for a while (assumption) the UFC needs someone else to bring in the $$$. Be prepared for Conor hype to go into overdrive.

I dont really mind though he reminds me of Jax Teller for some reason and keeps me well entertained.

Would still like to see him fighting Mendes on the same card as Aldo vs Edgar though with the 2 winners facing off against each other.

WTF??

Are you serious??

That was a f**king stand up masterclass... Against a stand up fighter...

He controlled the range with footwork and he controlled tempo with his timing... He lit him up with that straight right over and over again.

He hit him with the high kick frequently... He hit him with a switch kick and a flying knee...

And we need to remember... This wasn't against a guy with no stand up...

He did this to a veteran with a stand up background

and none of this would have happened against a fighter who can stop macgregor coming forth....like a top level wrestler.....or grappler...or someone with better footwork.....none of which macgregor has faced yet.....yet still manages a title shot.....fmd

I can understand the criticism's over him not fighting a wrestler... I agree with that... But it's about $$$...

But you completely wrong about someone with better footwork...

Dennis Siver had no business being a contender fight for Connor... Considering his skill set and his ranking..

But Dennis Siver was a champion kick boxer and has very, very good stand up technique... Your not going to find many people with better footwork in the stand up than Dennis Siver... Which is what makes Connor's victory so shocking in that area.

Now we have no idea what Connor's wrestling is like... But let's be completely honest here... the champion isn't going to wrestle him.

The UFC are just trying to keep this guy hyped to take advantage of the PPV buys... In a division where the champion has easily beaten all the viable contenders it's pretty easy to see why they want to push this guy.

One things for sure... We have to respect the guys stand up... And the champion is a stand up fighter... So it should be an interesting enough title fight...

If he's full of shit... He's gonna get knocked out by Aldo... If he can't wrestle he's going to get found out by a wrestler after the Aldo fight anyway...

Just an aside... To give you guys a clearer understanding of why the UFC are trying push the Connor hype so hard...

The Official Top 6 Featherweight Rankings:

FEATHERWEIGHT
Champion : Jose Aldo
1 Chad Mendes(Got KO'd and lost a UD to Aldo)
2 Frankie Edgar(Lost a UD to Aldo)
3 Ricardo Lamas(Lost a UD to Aldo)
4 Cub Swanson(Got KO'd by a flying knee in 8 seconds by Aldo)
5 Conor McGregor
6 Dustin Poirier(Got destroyed by Connor)

Apart from having Jose go up and fight Pettis... There's not much left for him in this division. The UFC FW division has been saved by a little Irishman and the UFC would be crazy to kill this golden goose for the sake of a few people getting there noses bent out of shape because he hasn't been molested by a wrestler yet.

dude, siver's kickboxing level is average, the highest level he acheived in kickboxing is german amateur champion. his mma background comes from samba. his movement is nowhere near the level of cub swanson let alone frankie edgar. and frankie showed against cub that his wrestling is off the charts and improving.

as for connor's wrestling? who cares. the point is that his attack is unchallenged because no-one has the skillsets needed to stop him coming forward, let alone throw a leg kick etc. and neutralise the only things that appear to be strengths in his game at this point in time.

Being the WAKO champion in a major territory like Germany is ALOT higher than your average striker in the UFC.

Seriously dude... I don't think your getting it...

NO ONE WANTS TO WATCH FRANKIE EDGAR FIGHT JOSE ALDO AGAIN!!!!

Disagree, a lot of people want to see this but more people want to see Conor vs Aldo. Either way would be good for the UFC but Conor/Aldo would be a home run. I would buy that ppv no doubt.

There's still a lot of fights and training camps to happen between now and then though, 1 injury could f**k everything up tbh.

With Aldo vs Mcgregor, the only question mark for me would be Conor's chin, can't recall seeing him take a solid hit yet (happy to be proven wrong though)

I would be leaning towards Aldo by stoppage at this stage

Just saw an interesting tidbit on Twitter from MMA jurno Mike Chiapetta...

He tweeted that UFC Fight Night: Conor McGregor vs Dennis Siver drew an average of 2.75M viewers. The most in Fox Sports history.

It smashed the previous record of 1.7M for Chael Sonnen vs Shogun Rua.

The guy is a lightning rod...

:lol:you're talking out of your arse, there are ex k1 and shoot champions in the ufc that struggle to contend for the top 10 let alone top level mma fighters. siver is WELL down the list.

and your comment on not wanting to watch frankie says everything about you as a fan, like someone else said before, lots of people want to see frankie v aldo 2, first fight was damn close and frankie has improved heaps, he just doesn't need to do a jig to make sure everyone knows about it. connor is getting a title shot simply because more people want to see it, not because "no-one" wants to see frankie aldo 2. the ufc recognise that if they send connor into against a higher ranked fighter from here to build him up further, he may NEVER get the title fight chance EVER.

I do.

I also want to see Connor vs Edgar, Connor vs Aldo or Connor vs any top 5 guy. I understand why he is getting the shot at Aldo but the step up for Connor is insane. I get them wanting to protect him and build him but I don't think they have done him any favours in sending him in against Aldo after beating a 36 year old Siver.

Where is the fight going to take place? If i am Aldo no way I am going to Ireland for it. Brazil if a non top 5 guy gets a shot I'd be saying. Anyway I am betting Aldo via murder. Hope I'm wrong. Anything can happen if Connor lands.

Who the f**k are you to say what kind of fan I am?? If you actually read my posts you would see that I agree that Frankie should be next...

But unlike idiots like you who see this as a black and white issue, Im a realist... I understand that the UFC is in the business of making money. Which in the FW division means making contenders for a champion who has beaten everyone in the top 5 of the division.

In an ideal world... Jon Fitch would never have been cut... Ben Askren would be fighting in the UFC... But this is the fight business...

I should probably redo my earlier statement... What I should have wrote was...

nobody wants to watch Frankie fight Jose Aldo II RIGHT NOW!!!

Your 100% right about your final statement... The UFC do not want to risk losing a mega PPV between Conor v Aldo by having him lose against a wrestler... That's just stupid business.

Frankie v Aldo II is not going anywhere... If Aldo destroys Connor... They can do the Frankie fight next and it loses no momentum.

I do find it ironic that your upset that Frankie has been passed up by Connor... Because for Frankie's original title shot Dana White basically bypassed the entire FW division and put him straight in to a title fight because it was the biggest fight to be made at the time...

But everyone forgets about that...

This is further illustrate how much of a no brainer this is for the UFC...

Connor McGregor v Dennis Siver got an average of 2.75M viewers... An event which was well and truly built on the back of McGregor.

6 months earlier Frankie Edgar v BJ Penn III got an average of 1.00M viewers... A far better headlined fight between two future HOF's.

McGregor v Siver did 1.75M better... To put that in to perspective... As I stated in an earlier post the previous record before McGregor v Siver was 1.75M by Shogun v Chael... So if you put both ratings together you would equal that McGregor fight... That's outrageous...

Siver has decent credentials but he's also 36 years old and is on the slow side and his lack of height and reach was tailor made for McGregor's outside striking, I'm not doubting McGregor's stand up skills or draw power, the thing that disappoints me is the UFC couldn't have given him a more perfect stylistic match up whilst telling us how dangerous an opponent washed up Dennis Siver is and how big a test it is, that's just treating the fans (I mean genuine fans, not McGregor bandwagoners) like fools. One of the main reasons I started following UFC was because they differed from boxing and they rarely had any record padding type fights, this was nothing more than a record padding type fight. I was thoroughly impressed with his win against Poirier and thought well there'll be another step up in opponent after this, but no they went so far backwards the reverse pedal almost broke.

Rumble's power is just scary and unlike a lot of power punchers he's not one dimensional, he can knock anyone out with either hand and either leg, his wrestling is also decent enough especially combined with his raw strength and athleticism. Jones is a smart fighter, I suspect he'll use alof of dirty boxing and cage wrestling to tire Rumble out and take him into the championship rounds

I don't see that happening to be honest.

I think Rumble will swing for the fences if Jones even tries to clinch with him and he'll get caught.

Jones' best chance is to pick him apart with his reach.

This is going to be an awesome fight! Rumble is my favorite fighter as of now. I wonder the timeframe on Jones and when that fight will take place.

I see it going like the Cormier fight.

Everybody talks it up like the man to beat Jones has been found yet Jones runs through him in a late stoppage or decision.

Then he heads out and does some coke with some hookers.
