If you think scoring tries 10 tries in a season on the wing means you are a star, than you probably need to re-evaluate your criteria of what a star is.

Union trolls just can't help themselves, they feel compelled to defend ridiculous positions even when they know it's absurd.

Denan Kemp managed to score 17 tries in a season playing on the left wing...but he's a legend i suppose:roll:

Nathan Hindmarsh. Never understood what was so good about him.

Hindmarsh was legendary in his early days as a ball running forward who used to make frequent breaks and carve teams up,than he became a fatso who couldn't run properly just had to make 80 tackles a game to make up for it.

when he was younger he was one of the most damaging ball runners in the game.

Later in his career one of the best defenders.

overrated in the sense people probably talk about him likes he an immortal, but he was a very good player in his prime.

This thread is about the most overrated players in Rugby League history.

John Kirwan was a washed-up former Union player who still managed to be the Warrior's top try-scorer in 1996, despite being years past his prime. If anything he was underrated.

Andy Platt was regarded as literally one of the best front-rowers in the world and won the 1993 Man of Steel award, before coming to Auckland in 1995 and being exposed as a one-dimensional plodder.

Agreed.

Was never en elite ball runner despite what some delusional parra fans will say, was consistently dominated.

And the majority of his 'tackles' were the 3rd man in, soft variety.

What absolute bullsh*t. Hindy was obviously far more potent in attack earlier in his career, but what he did in defence in his last few years was incredibly valuable to his team. Every side needs a workhorse, and I'm sure his team mates appreciated all the work he did. Not everyone does the one percenters, and that just makes the ones who do more valuable.

I'm not a deluded parra fan, but from around 98-02 period hindmarsh (along with tallis) was the best running back rower in the game. he eventually got bigger and slower and become more of a work horse making a tonne of tackles, cleaning up others mistake and doing all the shit runs the other parra forwards wouldn't do

Far more potent than what? The 50m per game he was averaging the last 5 years of his career?

He was a pathetic ball runner. Almost Beau Scott levels of bad.

As far as his defence went, he was a turnstile. Fat, slow and soft.

A master at flopping on top of tackles that were already made to pad his stats.

Nathan 'The Plod King' Hindmarsh. At least his shitty brother had a go.

Not sure how this thread got past Kurt Gidley without ending. Tim Sheens tossed his name up for Australia a week or 2 ago. Thank christ he indisputably played himself well out of that frame.

So in brief, Union is better in your view. Kirwan was younger than Platt! Yet Kirwan was washed up but Platt should have been in his prime????

Korean was extremely hyped in 95. His name was mentioned as much Bell, Platt and Ridge

Nowhere near as over rated as Johnson, maybe his handling errors are forced by the fact the whole team is enveloped by kneejerkery . . . picking out one bloke in a sea of errors is nonsensical. Vatuvei in a Storm jersey would have him carved in stone

Smartest thing Popeye has ever said.

On Andy Platt, he was highly rated in the UK and came down to NZ for a holiday on massive coin. He never had any interest in contributing, and neither did Denis Betts. Platt had a clause allowing his bulldogs to be flown over from the UK a certain amount of times a year for god's sake.

And anyone who reckons Hindy was a perennial plodder should get hold of tapes from around the turn of the century, then make comment based on fact not what they've seen lately

I loved it last year on the Matty Johns show one night when Johns and Fetch were obviously winding Hindmarsh up... They were talking about Adam Docker (hasn't he fallen off the radar) and what a great defender and hitter he was, and Johns goes "just have a look at this boys, watch Docker come up with these 3 tackles in row here" and they show the footage.... and Hindmarsh just pipes up "Made 3 tackles in a row did he?" completely non-plussed.... meanwhile Johns and Fletch start sniggering at the Panda!
