I just bought the mew single "Vertigo" which comes in three formats and I can tell you as a massive fan and someone who owns everything they've released the single itself ranks within the best 5 singles they've ever released and that's only after three listens!!!

the album "How to dismantle an atomic bomb" is released November 22!!! and f**k me, can I wait???.....absolutely not.

1. I prefer the Vai man.

2. Least Yngwie shreds a Strat, and not some wanky Ibanez or ESP.

3. I am starting to think of the Grohl as slightly over-rated.

Chet Atkins was the greatest guitarist God ever put breath into. Stevie Ray Vaughan was up there as well. Vai and Malmsteen can play though thats for sure.

Love Malmsteen's work.
Def leppard lost me with the "Slang" CD. God that was horrible #-o

New Megadeth CD is great, even though it's just Mustaine with some Session musicians.

Slang was particularly ordinary though they did get a little better with Euphoria and X. The loss of Steve Clark was significant in the post Retroactive albums....

Now Ry Cooder can play a guitar

but hey we all know that guitarists are just like sports car owners
trying to make up for a minor deficiency in the nether regions

Agreed with the Steven Clark loss. I had high hopes for Vivian Campbell, considering his background, but he didn't deliver.

For me the biggest problem with Def Leppard is that success went to their head and they started releasing CD's for the sales, not the fans. The fans for the most part stayed away in droves and the commercial success after Adrenalize dried up.
They should have stuck to their roots.

Collen and Clark had such a great sound together its very hard to replicate the chemistry but they definitely should have stayed true to their roots. Unfortunately they followed Metallica....

The Greatest Hits is not unlike their last one, just a few different songs. Shame they can't at least get back somewhere near Hysteria....

That being said Waterloo Sunset isn't too bad a song.

Agree mate. They've been playing Vertigo daily over here for a month pre-release - and it's on the new ipod ad  - but it stays as catchy as hell after... even 100 listens!

I take it you're aware of the two-disc version as well Colonel? Both are on sale here in their native UK, think the second disc is more rarities etc...
