Went to my local KFC for lunch and the young girl that served me had a nametag that said Evie. I naturally said "Your parents must be Stevie Wright fans". She gave me a very blank look so I said "You should ask them if you were named after the song". I think if your name has a connection to something you should know what it is.

It actually made no 56 here in Australia

BBC 4 just broadcast an edition of TOTPs from 1978.

Lo and behold, up popped the lovely Dee D. Jackson and her automatic, if rather pedestrian, companion. Have to confess, found singer and song quite agreeable. Exhibits a certain retro charm. Can imagine throwing a few moody shapes down at the church hall junior disco back in the day. As we sipped weak lemon-and-lime from plastic cups and ogled the older girls mooching round their handbags.

Bee Gees were at number 1 with Night Fever. Interpreted by Legs & Co in one of their best routines, known to devotees as "Nightie Fever".

Here's an enduring conundrum. The following is a run of 7 consecutive Blondie hit singles and their highest UK chart position -

Heart of Glass 1
Sunday Girl 1
Dreaming 2
Union City Blue 13
Atomic 1
Call Me 1
The Tide is High 1

Guess which is my favourite.

In 1979, I spent Christmas and New Year with relatives in Jersey (not New Jersey, the one in the Channel Islands). Bought two singles with a gift token - Blondie "Union City Blue" and The Skids "Working For The Yankee Dollar".

To this day, cannot comprehend why Union City Blue only reached number 13. There must be a reason. The band were red hot during that period. A recording of Debs reciting the phone directory would have dented the charts.

One of my favourite live performances of all time. Even if the music isn’t to your taste, the ‘moves’ of the bass player are a sight to behold, especially towards the end. Thrusting into the world!
