Its just too expensive for ordinary people to attend games. Crowds will get worse before it gets better.

More accurately...

The NRL started pushing memberships around 2007-2008.
In the following years, through a combination of good form streaks at the right time and good marketing, a few teams jumped ahead of the pack, pulling 15k+ crowds for a couple of years. They were labelled 'the big 5' by the media and a good portion of LU's resident dribblers. The Sydney teams that cleearly had the most fans and were not at all basically in the right place (on the ladder) at the right time.

Fast forward a few years, and some of those teams have hit poor form, and others have gained some ground in membership. Suddenly, 3 of the BIG 5 are pulling crowds that would make Cronulla and Easts 2009 embarrassed.

Based on the above statistics, I can only conclude (based on LU's past wisdom) that:
- Parra have no fans
- Dragons must be relocated to Nauru
- Wests and Penrith should merge

Myth busted.

LOL at the Rooster fan comparing the only year when they sign a player who brings in 14k each week just by himself!

Also proves that Parra - the home of the spoon - is a shade short of one of the last 3 premiers, and in front of the other two.

If we ever get our act together onfield...............

Souths weren't good at all 08-11. Tigers weren't good either 06-09. Parra have been awful apart for half of 09. Dogs won the spoon in 08.
If it's ladder positions that were important in popularity then Manly should right up the top.

Parra has been last for three years yet are only just behind Manly who have won two premierships recently.

Souths weren't good at all 08-11.
Souffs strength was their marketing, and the promise of good things to come. And admittedly a large fanbase.

Tigers weren't good either 06-09.

Tigers have always had the lowest numbers of the so-called big 5, consistently less memberships than the Roosters. And were a top side in 10-11.

Parra have been awful apart for half of 09.

Gave them a massive boost going into the next season, their run was perfectly timed. Crowds have been on the decline since.

Dogs won the spoon in 08.

And =1st in 09... Dogs have been consistently better crowd-wise for years though, they deserve the accolades they get. Souffs to an extent too, in recent years. Wests Parra and Saints are nothing special and have never deserved to be grouped as such.

If it's ladder positions that were important in popularity then Manly should right up the top.

Off-field basket-case and the most insular fans in the NRL.

Easts benefiting off a 'home' gate against Souths that was 65-70% Rabbitohs fans

We're halfway through the year and Souths have had TWO home games against Sydney teams all year.

Fun fact: our average away crowd is 5000 more than our average home crowd from 99-13. And our away average has been higher every single year. I honestly think we have more fans outside our areas than within them. We consistently bring in big crowds for every other bloody team. :(
