Blind Freddy can see that Ikin has to fire Walters. I wonder if he'll do it/how long it'll take him to do it?

If they fire him then any payout counts against their football department cap. Its probably why he won't get the chop this off season. After having to pay out Seibold, paying out Walters 12 months later would not be smart from that perspective. Might be better to use Walters as the axe man and then, at the end of next season, bring in someone of better quality to oversee the rebuild.

Either way the rebuild will take longer than 12 months.

Cheers, I didn't think of it like that. Makes sense.

Agreed with all this. Broncos management are holding all the cards and don't need to do anything irrational. It makes no sense to fire Kevin Walters when there is another year left on his contract. The smarter option is to give Walters till next season and see how it plays out. The roster isn't even one of his choosing this season. And this team came last the previous season so expecting Walters to be a magician and to turn it into a finals contender right off the bat is unrealistic.

There is view that the roster is underperforming though. And I think alot of the downfalls can be pointed at Anthony Milford as he takes so much cap. But the defense at times has been pathetic and one player can't be held completely responsible for that.

Yesterday's performance against the Sharks was a step in the right direction. And with Kotoni Staggs back there is reason for optimism. But it is only one performance, and they beat the Roosters too and then reverted back to their horrible ways.

Whilst I think Haas is talented and worth locking up long term, if this report is accurate, then the Broncos have not learned much based on similar deals handed out by other clubs -

He's in his 3rd year of a 6 year deal at the moment, I think the Broncos are just upgrading 4 more years on top so his manager doesn't start agitating about being underpaid (since he is at the moment - 500k).

They've been handing out dodgy player options left right and centre for the last couple of years and ironically the only player who looks deserving of that kind of leverage is Haas.

Absolutely criminal guys like Milford and Boyd got to coast on huge contracts while this guy busts his gut every week for half of what they were on.

That's all true but when he signed the deal, he had played 3 NRL games and signed it whilst recovering from a season-ending injury. A few people at the time were asking whether or not he was worth it, you can't really tell after 3 NRL games.

In the lower grades he was simply bigger than everyone else, so of course you'd expect him to barrel them over.

Whether he signs on or decides not to and go somewhere else, he deserves whatever he gets.

This team looks so much better with Kotoni Staggs. That if Staggs had played earlier in the season you have to wonder if the season would be as much of car crash as it's been. However, top 8 would still be out of the question.

The team still has no resilience though. The Bunker completely let the Broncos off the hook last night. The howler of a decision robbed the Cowboys of momentum at a critical point of the game. And robbed fans of what would have been a grand stand finish.

I also think though the Broncos have looked better then their opponents in the last two weeks. They capitulated against the Tigers and almost choked against the Cowboys. Which makes you think that Walters hasn't been quite getting this team to play to its potential. And all the blame can't be pointed at the quality of the roster.

I think Kevvie is doing a good job, he is blooding some young kids without ruining their future and over the past month we've had a pretty good month. The Wests game we looked to have them covered but just some stupid mistakes gave them field position (which otherwise they never looked like getting without our help), Penrith.. one of the competition favourites and we made them earn it and obviously the Cronulla win was a good effort too.

There has to be a lot of things go wrong for a club like Brisbane to get a wooden spoon, so you can't just lay it all on the coach. Just recently in the past month they've started to get things in order behind the scenes and surprise surprise, a few good results have come as a result.

Staggs has been good but we always knew he would be, he's a gun player. He just gives the team a point of attack, we never really had a go to edge or anything but now with Staggs out there and Jordan Riki who has been really good lately, that's obviously the side they are going to.

The bunker did ruin a potentially good finish but Broncos were the better team for most of the contest and far more creative in attack.

I love how NQ knocked on twice in that set and fans and commentators are going on about NQ being robbed. How Rugby League of everyone.

Kotoni Staggs has reinjured his knee and will miss the rest of the season. While its not the same injury, its still a worry for the Broncos. After what the Broncos went through with Jack Bird they don't need a Jack Bird 2.

It may halt the momentum Kevin Walters was making with this team as well. And getting a strong finish he was hoping for the Broncos.

He is unlucky, but I don't think he is injury prone. Both of his injuries happened in tackles, where as Bird got injured from training and just running the ball. Bird was also overweight at the Broncos and looks to be in much better shape now, so maybe he is finally taking his rehab stuff seriously.

That explains why we got rid of Lodge and Pangai suddenly.
