The "PLEASE Brian, sign a halfback" Thread

It's a pointless discussion because it would never happen, but I have no doubt that in the next few years De Gois and Mullen will be as good a combination as any in the comp. I have no doubt that with someone as brilliant as Inglis that they could adapt to his playing style and succeed. Can't say the same for the other two options we have right now...

Any way...back to reality...I'm surprised there has not been more comment around Seymour...good player who could probably do with the benefit of being out of a capital city and being in more of a fishbowl (more eyes on him equal less opportunity for trouble - not that he's really done much bad to start with)...could be the missing piece of the 1-6-7-9 puzzle...

Are you guys serious Inglis was named man of the match and given the Clive Churchill Medal playing 5/8 in the 2007 Grand Final. He has also played for Australia and will go down as one of the best players of the modern era, and you don't want him at 5/8?

When was the last time Scott Dureau or Ben Rogers played for Australia or was chosen as man of the match in a Grand Final playing in the halves. I'm glad you guys aren't in charge of recruiting.

Of course, and yes I think they will be top 3 or even better in the next few years too :) But yeah not worth carrying on however there would still be no kicker and no organiser (essentially missing a halfback) and I think a team with those two players would struggle, maybe even still if they were as brilliant as Joey himself.

Just had a thought, and its probably a fair thread to put it in:

I don't think we'll win a comp with Mullo at 7 (whether that is most of the season or in the GF or whatever). Its a big call, but I'm willing to make it :p

RE: Inglis at five-eighth, put simply, he's not one. Which is precisely the reason I'd take Mullen/Dureau over Inglis/Mullen. Sure, I'd love to have GI at the Knights, provided he's not playing in the halves. If Inglis and Mullen were our halves, we'd essentially have a centre playing five-eighth and a five-eighth playing halfback. It wouldn't work.

And Serc, I agree with you in regards to us not winning a comp with Mullo at 7.

How about a SOO game? I have a feeling the selectors think differently

(BTW I dont like Mullo at #7 either)
We probably won't win a SOO with Mullo at 7 either. IMO our best chance of winning game three (yes, we're going off tangent a bit) is with Mullo at 6 and Noddy at 7.

You're nuts, id have Inglis here without a doubt, no matter what position he plays.

So you'd be happy to play Mullo out of position if it meant having a superstar here also playing out of position?

Inglis ftw. If there was 17 Inglises on one team they'd win the comp hands down.

That might be true. But we'd have a sh*tload more chance of winning a comp with Mullo at 7 than Dureau at 7.

We won't win a competition with Dureau playing halfback while ever his ass points to the ground.

So what is it to be? A slim to no chance of winning a comp with Mullen in 7, or zero chance with Dureau in 7?

Unless you just wanna write this season off until we find a half?

Well this is your opinion mate, dont write it up as fact.

I dont think we can win a comp with 2 running halves and no organiser. We have great players in other positions but without someone to actually do the traditional role of a halfback we will get rolled by the top sides when we have noone who is capable of giving us good field position. Wide passes, chip chases and up/down bombs are next to useless coming out of our own 20.

I have made a conscious decision not to discuss Dureau with you know who over the last few months (as much as possible) but right there are my thoughts in a much less verbose fashion!

While I'm not going to have an epic rage if we do sign a halfback, I would like to see (and think we will) a fair bit more more of Dureau before the season is over as I think most of us know he still has a lot to offer.

Edit: I was wondering if you'd clutch onto the Dragons game after you spotted that little gem yesterday - yes, no fluke, but if we're going to analyse it, it has to be mentioned that it was against one of the weakest lineups that they will have run onto the field this year, particularly in the forwards.

The fact is we won't we the comp with Dureau or Rogers in the halves.

As the thread says, we need to sign a half back which has been obvious for the last 18 months.
