What it looks like they'll pick;

1. Hayne
2. B Morris
3. Gaz
4. Idris
5. Uate/Gordon (Pending City/Country performance)

6. Soward
7. Pearce/Mullen (Pending performance)

4 of Snowden, Galloway, Mannah, Tolman or TLL.

9. Innis or Farah.

Creagh, Bird, Gallen and Lewis.

And another bencher, possibly an extra prop or both Ennis and Farah.

This would be my side

1. Dugan
2. Hayne
3. Gasnier
4. Josh Morris (lack of genuine options)
5. Uate
6. Soward
7. Mullen
8. Tolman
9. Farah
10. Snowden
11. Scott
12. Creagh
13. Gallen

14. Mannah
15. Merrin
16. TLL
17. Lewis (when does he return?) if not Bird

I'd love to see Cooper re-consider his position as a NSW fan, but want him to play for us as well. Scott in the starting side because of the existing relationship between Gaz and Soward. Bigger bench due to Scott, Creagh, Tolman and Gallen all being 80 minute players at club level

The side I would fear most -

Dugan
Hayne
Jennings
Lawrence (if fit or Hopoate)
Gordon
Mullen
Pearce
Tolman
Young
Weyman
Dwyer
Gallen
Houston

Tariq Sims
Lewis (if fit or Beau Scott)
Ennis
Douglas

18 Hopoate

would smash the side they will pick ... yay Queensland

Oink !

It's the Inglis Boyd combination that makes it so hard to pick a good right hand centre. It's tempting to pick a defensive minded centre/wing combination, but I don't know that it would do much good. It hasn't worked for any team in the past, and I don't think it will work in Origin either. The only thing that I have noticed that works is when you pick players that can match Inglis in attack, plus have the ability to get up in his face and put a few shots on, as well as can match him for size IMO. I also think we need genuine pace out wide. Inglis looks slow, while Boyd will be just coming back from a hamstring tear. Speed, size and aggression may be our biggest weapon to combat those two.

Can Gordon play centre well?

Dugan
Hayne
Gordon
Gasnier
Uate

is an option. I want Dugan and Uate in but I don't want Gordon out.

I agree. Hayne & Dugan to fight it out for the FB spot. The "loser" to play on the wing with Uate. Gordon on the bench (if Gidley is not back in time).

Some people never learn.

Picking wingers on the bench? centers on the bench?

FFS people. Some positions are specialist positions. Like centre, five eight, halves and hookers.

Some positions are very very similar in basic responsibilities like wing and fullback (most fullbacks can make a successful grasp of a wing position, like Jarryd Hayne)

Try this when picking your teams. Pick your spine and decide the best style of play you want to put in for those 4 players. Then pick your bench. After your bench, pick the run on side that best compliments the spine, combinations are a bonus.

Follow common sense, Michael Gordon on the bench is just a waste and so so silly.

He just doesn't fit into any game plans

pearce will put too much pressure on soward to do the attack, pearce is not a creative halfback or is going to worry the defence, soward would have do the attack for half and 5/8

As if carney or any other 5/8. they will have to do all the attack if pearce is halfback, qld defence knows that shut down the 5/8 and nsw wont be a threat there is no other attacking option.

If Dugan gets fullback, then Hayne to the left wing and Uate/Gordon can play the other wing.

But if Hayne gets fullback, I want Gordon and Uate as the wingers, I don't want Dugan as a winger over Uate or Gordon

posted this in another thread... but worth posting here maybe

Some players are all class regardless of the side they're in. Some players feed off the success of a well-coached, premiership winning side. Not denying their contribution to that side, but they aren't going to make the necessary step up. Good club players.

Players like White, Cross, Turner, Quinn, Wolfman, Glen Stewart, Kite, King, Perry, and now Brett Morris, Ben Creagh and Beau Scott. Somehow Wests Tigers 05 completely missed this boat

NSW picks these flash-in-the-pan "form players" year in year out, while QLD sticks with the same class players that have proven themselves year in year out.

If the rumours about Watmough not being selected, Idris being selected on the bench, etc are true...NSW have learned nothing and Sticky is all talk.

My current side is still pretty similar to what I posted at the start of the year (If i remember correctly... :)).

1 Dugan - Future superstar for sure. Needs to be blooded now.
2 Hayne - Proven success on the wing, NSW best player for 2 years running.
3 Gasnier - Getting back to his best, probably the best centre in NSW.
4 Gordon - Problem position with Lyon being flakey again. If Lyon wants to play he's my first pick. If not, then who's left? Idris, Josh Morris, Jennings. imo Gordon doesn't deserve to be dropped after proving himself last year and his favourite position is reportedly centre. Could be worth a shot. Alternative backline, and probably less controversial: Hayne Gordon Gasnier Morris Uate.
5 Uate - Another future superstar. In, now.
6 Soward - With Carney gone, this shouldn't even be a debate, and I don't even like him that much as a player. Flawless kicking game though.
7 Pearce - Pearce v Mullen. There's no one else. Pearce's current form leaves something to be desired, but has shown himself to be a classy young player over the last few years and that doesn't disappear in a month. As the incumbent he should get the nod.
8 Snowden - One of the top front rowers in the game for a few years now and showed what he can do last year.
9 Farah - Class player, hopefully will be fit. Ennis is shite.
10 Leahroyd-Lars - Absolutely proved himself last series. Love his work.
11 Bird - Every time he plays rep football steps up without fail. Should be first player picked imo.
12 Gallen - Absolutely massive workrate and seems to be showing more discipline these days.
13 Lewis (c) - Top player, amazed he wasn't captain last year

14 Gidley
- We all know he's a certainty, no point beating around the bush anymore. And to be fair, was very good in game 3 last year. Stay away from fullback.
15 Tolman - The only forward new to the side, a top up-and-comer. This spot could also be filled by Merrin or Grant, but Tolman is the best of the bunch imo.
16 Mannah - Another young forward who proved himself last year, along with Snowy and TLL. Keep these guys in and we have the pack to beat QLD, if not this year then next.
17 Watmough - Farce if he isn't selected, has been devastating in the past.

Barring a couple of positions (centre, half) the side pretty much picks itself in my opinion. This is the side to beat QLD.

I think you can safely rule Michael Gordon out of the side. Brett Morris has one spot locked up given he was picked for Australia.

I think the order for the other wing spot is:
Jarryd Hayne (if Dugan makes fullback)
Akuila Uate
Michael Gordon

Atleast the way the media is reporting, Yow Yeh beat out Hayne and Uate for a wing spot and Gordon isn't even mentioned. Which would be great for the Panthers with him being our only consistently performing player, but it's a bit of a slap in the face to him considering his form now is easily much better then it was before he got picked last year... and that he was better in his debut then Morris in any one of his 3 games.

That's a good side. Slightly different to what I would have but a good side nonetheless.

I really hope Morris is nowhere near the side. If Morris is picked ahead of any of those three, then they really have no idea. Morris is a cat, has done nothing in rep games and has done nothing all year.
