Soward is the form NSW half this year and last year unlike your buddy Mitch.

Dean Young as a utility at least won't waste a bench spot since he could easily slot into 6 or 9 in case of injury but if there isn't any he can also play backrow unlike Gids.

Creagh is in form and is starting for Australia so imo he will get picked.

Some people never learn.

Picking wingers on the bench? centers on the bench?

FFS people. Some positions are specialist positions. Like centre, five eight, halves and hookers.

Some positions are very very similar in basic responsibilities like wing and fullback (most fullbacks can make a successful grasp of a wing position, like Jarryd Hayne)

Try this when picking your teams. Pick your spine and decide the best style of play you want to put in for those 4 players. Then pick your bench. After your bench, pick the run on side that best compliments the spine, combinations are a bonus.

Follow common sense, Michael Gordon on the bench is just a waste and so so silly.

Played much! Centre is not a specialist spot! Catch, Run, Pass, Tackle.
If you have a quality 5/8, who can put you through holes, someone like Jennings might be successful.

However, you don't waste a bench spot for someone who can't fill in the halfs or forwards (Lewis - perfect utility).

Not bad though I don't think Hayne has ever played or displayed an interest in playing centre.

I'd say defending in the centres is quite specialist.

1 Dugan - Future superstar for sure. Needs to be blooded now.
2 Hayne - Proven success on the wing, NSW best player for 2 years running.
3 Gasnier - Getting back to his best, probably the best centre in NSW.
4 Gordon - Problem position with Lyon being flakey again. If Lyon wants to play he's my first pick. If not, then who's left? Idris, Josh Morris, Jennings. imo Gordon doesn't deserve to be dropped after proving himself last year and his favourite position is reportedly centre. Could be worth a shot. Alternative backline, and probably less controversial: Hayne Gordon Gasnier Morris Uate.
5 Uate - Another future superstar. In, now.
6 Soward - With Carney gone, this shouldn't even be a debate, and I don't even like him that much as a player. Flawless kicking game though.
7 Pearce - Pearce v Mullen. There's no one else. Pearce's current form leaves something to be desired, but has shown himself to be a classy young player over the last few years and that doesn't disappear in a month. As the incumbent he should get the nod.
8 Snowden - One of the top front rowers in the game for a few years now and showed what he can do last year.
9 Farah - Class player, hopefully will be fit. Ennis is shite.
10 Leahroyd-Lars - Absolutely proved himself last series. Love his work.
11 Bird - Every time he plays rep football steps up without fail. Should be first player picked imo.
12 Gallen - Absolutely massive workrate and seems to be showing more discipline these days.
13 Lewis (c) - Top player, amazed he wasn't captain last year

14 Gidley
- We all know he's a certainty, no point beating around the bush anymore. And to be fair, was very good in game 3 last year. Stay away from fullback.
15 Tolman - The only forward new to the side, a top up-and-comer. This spot could also be filled by Merrin or Grant, but Tolman is the best of the bunch imo.
16 Mannah - Another young forward who proved himself last year, along with Snowy and TLL. Keep these guys in and we have the pack to beat QLD, if not this year then next.
17 Watmough - Farce if he isn't selected, has been devastating in the past.

I like it.

I think Gordon would provide excellent utility value. I can honestly see him being used as a replacement dummy half or in some kind of roving role. Plus he can also cover FB, wing, centre and even in the halves if needed (i believe he played there in the juniors).

Now consider our other utility options;

K.Gidley - Injured

L.Lewis - I'm sure he wouldn't let anyone down but tbh he should only be played in the forwards and WE NEED SOMEONE TO COVER THE BACKS. In any case, he should be in the starting side anyway

J.Idris - Covers centre and second row. Can't see how he's going to make a huge impact off the bench.

D.Young - Only other realistic option imo, but lacks speed and creativity. I want someone who can test the Qld defence.

So what's so silly about that?

So who was overlooked for City Country? After looking at those two teams.

Seems Bird, Gasnier.

So the Squad that will take us throught the series will be, there is always injury.

Fullback
Hayne and "The Dugan" are made to play CvC, I suspect Hayne is 1 with "The Dugan" handy backup.

Wingers
B Morris is rated 1, I suspect Uate will be right No1, leaving Gordon, Hopoate, Merrit as backups.

Centres
I think Ricky has Gasiner on Inglis, CvC may well determine who gets to mark Hodges. I think Ricky is thinking Morris twins and Creagh on the left. But Obviously Jennings, Idris, Champion, Thompsen all have chances perhaps even Beau Scott.

Halves
I have no idea what Ricky is thinking here, but clearly Pearce, Soward, Mullen will be the players. Carney was the plan not sure what plan B is. CvC might decide this. My guess is Soward and Mullen may get it, Soward to still be right with Gas, Mullen may get the nod over Pearce being a lefty.

Backrow
Gallen will be captain and lock, Creagh obviously has regained favour plays left. I think Bird will be playing right. with Idris providing breaks. Beau Scott G Stewart next cabs then Houston, Mini, etc L Lewis is not injuried starts.

Front Row
Snowden appears to be NSW 1, Tolman, TLL, Mannah, Galloway all with chances. I think TLL is certain off the bench leaving the others to fight out for the start and other bench spot.

Hooker
Again not sure which way Ricky will go obviously Farah and Ennis are fighting it out. My guess Ennis, Robbie plays more like a half. Stuart is a fan of the Walters direct type.

My guess from the selections made is

1. J Hayne
2. B Morris
3. J Morris
4. M Gasiner
5. A Uate
6. J Soward
7. J Mullen
8. K Snowden
9. M Ennis
10. K Galloway
11. G Bird
12. B Creagh
13. P Gallen (c)

14. T Mannah
15. T Learoyd Lars
16. J Idris
17. B Scott

That team can win. Bench needs work but thats a forward pack that can really allow Ennis to work well.

I think that's what they might pick as well. However, I think Galloway might be looked past again. But otherwise very close IMO

There seems to be a lot of Merrin talk in the media, he might be benchy? who knows.

I can't wait for this CvC match, gonna be a cracker and I just wanna know the NSW squad already
