Sorry…just had to share this. I thought this kid was no good. But he has been playing well for the Warriors. Bloody hell. What’s wrong with us?
Well maybe their first step was to give the kid four games in a row rather than the occasional 10 minute bench role in our stellar forward pack behind such greats as Woods, McGuire, Lawrie etc…….
Good on him. Shows what can happen when players leave this stinkfest of a rabble for greener pastures.

A fluff article to slap us over the head with whilst we are taking major body blows for other things.

Let's see how he is going at year end and if it all holds together for him.

I love how a couple of games early in the season is somehow a renaissance for a career that has yet to actually get fully going.

As I always said
Jackson is a workhorse and full of effort snd plays sometimes above his weight but good for an error or a penalty or 2
he would of fitted in well with us but the media love jumping on a bandwagon after 1 or 2 good games especially when the team around him is doing reasonably well

Yep, much like Host got early, when he went to Wabbits.
Sorry, I know you had some thought on the guy but Ford, Burns & Host haven't got what it takes in competing with large hard running edge forwards.

Indeed you are correct.

I thought Host would have blossomed and he has not and whilst serviceable is more chaff than wheat.

Many thought that it was the all ti do with the coach but sadly that is not the case.

Yes especially now they are looking at Mitchell Pearce for next year
Chip off the old block they are hoping?
Now here is a great opportunity for us if ever there was one

Put a ribbon and bow on Hunt and send him their way and let M P go back to his ancestral home as a 14.

Are we in anyway smart enough to even think of this as a possibility?

Look as far as I am concerned, the current joint venture clubs seem doomed. Yes, both have won grand finals (Tigers first in 2005 and then us in 2010). Overall, the Dragons have done better, however, both JV's in the scheme of things have not really been successful.

In the case of the Dragons, we of course started off really well in 1999 but as we know we were "dudded" in the G/F (by ref and by Mundine). In my opinion our best coaches from the start of our JV were David Waite (56.3% wins in 2 years), Nathan Brown (53% wins in 6 years) and of course Wayne Bennett (65% in 3 years). The others I won't mention (there were 5 others).

In the case of the Wests Tigers, from 2000, they have had 9 coaches and the best was Tim Sheens who coached them to the grand final win in 2005 - his win percentage over his first 10 straight years was 48.22% (2003-2012). His second term as head coach in 2023 has yielded 0% wins. Out of the other 8 coaches, Wayne Pearce and Ivan Cleary were best with wins of 42.3% and 42% respectively. Pearce only coached for a year while Cleary had 2 years.

Wests Tigers have had "better" coaches than us in the past 5 years with Ivan Cleary, Michael Maguire and Tim Sheens (all having won premierships), however not all at Wests Tigers only Sheens in 2005 and not looking good for Sheens in 2023.

So given some iffy sort of arguments by me, both Joint Venture clubs just don't look the ants pants and for some reason, the JV's just won't work.

New coaches, new players, etc still ineffective.

Good luck Tigers with Mitchell Pearce at 34 hahaha!

Won their clubman of the year last year. Must count for something. I think he looked very good so far for Souths but players do tend to look better when they play amongst better players. Moot point but if we were to try and get Host back now we'd be paying more than what he was on at the time.

He was out for most of the year with a shoulder injury
His award was more likely for the online interviews he did of the players in his team.

I know we criticise some players a lot for being mediocre but we should remember to get to first grade you have to be an outstanding player through the juniors...I've been involved with many and only the very very talented actually get to make it to grade. Once in first grade they are then compared to others and its then may seem to be average...

I just find it annoying the way they report these things

He had plenty of games starting for us so him starting us not some new revelation

Is he going ok after a couple of games
probably is but it is early in the season and no one in the forwards other than Haas has got out of low gear

If he gets a few more head knocks as he did with us it will then question the statement that he is a 80 minute player and that we got it so wrong.
Next week we will have got it wrong letting Aitken and Williame go ffs.

Fair enough mate. But after all the BS that goes on with players hitting their wives and players taking drugs, me thinks it was good to see a young guy who didn’t play well with us have a few good games at the warriors (wish he played well with us)

Yes DD, I can remember at the time of the mergers, the fans of the Dragons, Illawarra, Balmain and West's were all told that the mergers would be a great thing and that the JVs would be "super clubs". Why is it then that both JVs hang around the bottom of the table and appear to be getting worse? The NRL sold the fans a pup I think. But it is what it is and I don't think there is any way of going back. Rather we need to concentrate on finding a way forward and lift the club out of its current mediocre level. Is the attempt to have the Board chairman have a 3 year term (instead of 1 year) a step towards better long range planning and stability? I really hope so.

The St George dragons…one of the most popular and successful clubs in the league sold their soul…they should’ve pulled a south Sydney…disappear for a few years and then come back again.

Well researched and argued DD. I'm just glad we're not the West or Western Dragons as there's sure to be some pressure (particularly from those pushing for a third Brisbane franchise) for a club with West something in the title to relocate to Perth.

The way the club is going and all the no idea board discussions , and lingering around the bottom of the table could be just what they want , pass the mess on .....
