Yes especially now they are looking at Mitchell Pearce for next year
Chip off the old block they are hoping?
Look as far as I am concerned, the current joint venture clubs seem doomed. Yes, both have won grand finals (Tigers first in 2005 and then us in 2010). Overall, the Dragons have done better, however, both JV's in the scheme of things have not really been successful.
In the case of the Dragons, we of course started off really well in 1999 but as we know we were "dudded" in the G/F (by ref and by Mundine). In my opinion our best coaches from the start of our JV were David Waite (56.3% wins in 2 years), Nathan Brown (53% wins in 6 years) and of course Wayne Bennett (65% in 3 years). The others I won't mention (there were 5 others).
In the case of the Wests Tigers, from 2000, they have had 9 coaches and the best was Tim Sheens who coached them to the grand final win in 2005 - his win percentage over his first 10 straight years was 48.22% (2003-2012). His second term as head coach in 2023 has yielded 0% wins. Out of the other 8 coaches, Wayne Pearce and Ivan Cleary were best with wins of 42.3% and 42% respectively. Pearce only coached for a year while Cleary had 2 years.
Wests Tigers have had "better" coaches than us in the past 5 years with Ivan Cleary, Michael Maguire and Tim Sheens (all having won premierships), however not all at Wests Tigers only Sheens in 2005 and not looking good for Sheens in 2023.
So given some iffy sort of arguments by me, both Joint Venture clubs just don't look the ants pants and for some reason, the JV's just won't work.
New coaches, new players, etc still ineffective.
Good luck Tigers with Mitchell Pearce at 34 hahaha!
