The Rumours Thread

On Newcastle's forum they are talking about the prospect of getting Klemmer. They are saying that Klemmer isn't adverse to moving his family to Newcastle, but they are saying that Taupau doesn't want to move his family out of Sydney. We should be doing our upmost to sign Taupau. I would be wrapped with a set of props of Vaughan, Taupau, Graham, Korbin Sims and the idea of Lucky or Frizz playing prop too.

Easts are rumoured to be in the market for Taupau and Pangai Junior. Easts don't shop at Go Lo or the Reject Shop. I have also heard that Taupau has come out and said that he has to look after his family (that implies that he will take up a better offer, if it comes along). I won't be surprised to see Taupau in an Easts jersey next year. If they manage to sign him, then I will be backing them big time to win next year's comp again.

Is the cap now $20 million?

Yeah, same as the Roosters.
Dudes, they just do TPAs. They're up there with Melbourne. Easts, Brisbane and Melbourne -- all spending, legally, at least $600K above the cap maximum through TPAs. We're spending $26K. We can whine all we like, but that's the reality and it's why we won't be signing Klemmer or Taupau but we will be signing reserve graders and hopind for the best. We let the club off the hook by having a go at clubs who are just better at management, marketing, governance and accounting.

Not better.
Melbourne and Brisbane are one team towns, they have a captive corporate market.
Roosters have Uncle Nick and his endless supply of corporate mates.
This is why the TPA arrangement is completely unfair and distorts the intended purpose of a salary cap.

Bests Golden Boots, you make a good point. Yes Melbourne and Brisbane definitely have an unfair advantage because they're one town teams (though Melbourne is one team in a town that doesn't care about it and they still pay out more in TPAs than Brisbane), but the advantage Easts have isn't unfair. They're just better at doing it than we are. And we are the worst at it. That's our problem to deal with. We'll probably never pay out the $780 that Melbourne pay. But we should be aiming for $350,000. That's the difference between affording two better backs, or one better back and one better bench forward. Which might have been the difference between over achieving for one season and actually winning the comp.

I can't see the NRL getting rid of TPAs. And if they're not going to, the club's management has to come to terms with that and do a lot better.

So our TPA are worth $27k. So is the split evenly for those on a TPA.
I don’t know who is in charge of getting TPA for our club. He should be sacked.

Wondering whether Melbourne and Brisbane still maintain close ties with the Murdoch family.

If so this is why they have an endless supply of TPA funds.

Apart from Roosters most other clubs would be in the same boat as us.

As for Newcastle who paid what amounts to unders for Ponga, and probably market for Pierce, rest of their team is made of juniors and Roosters rejects, so I doubt they have significant TPA money.

Note we are still waiting for Doust to attract major TPA’s from Gordon Family business associates :)) and won’t be holding my breath.

Again people misinformed TPAare to be sourced by the players manager not the club, this is why the NRL is a joke, the rules are broken by all these clubs and they turn a blind eye...

Hahahahahahahaha.

I know this is supposed to be the case, but does anyone here seriously doubt clubs are garenteeing TPA payments to players and including them in contract offers?

Then....either sack marketing dept or Doust and Co.

Not trying hard enough.
Not skilled to do their job.

I wasn't aiming at the Knights, but at the RoRters out of Bondi.
