In my opinion, most of the problems facing players at the Dragons stem from a lack of fitness and speed. Bring in good fitness staff and work hard on sprint exercises and there will be a big change in the confidence of our team.
I agree possum. The problem we have that it is hard to judge our squad. Even the most talented players will only excel if they are up on their fitness. We appear to be behind many teams in this aspect.
I think Flanno will sort all this out. I hope.

I feel a bit for JDB as he would be a definite Origin selection for me. I know he has himself to blame for putting himself in a terrible situation whether guilty or not, but no matter how good he plays he obviously looks like he will never be picked to play reps again. If not for his stupidity at the peak of his career, he would be playing his 6th Origin series.

I remember hearing that Bradman Best was on the outer a few months ago and not going to be re-signed by the Knights. If true he would be a handy pick up for saints. Good turn around from him and a player Flanno will work well with. I also think Saifiti may be on the outer as well so another one to look out for.

If Saints can snag a at least 4 of these guys for 2024 that would be handy - Big Tino, Fafita (Titans), Saifiti, Best, Lachlan Fitzgibbon (Knights), Jordan McLean (Cows) , Bryce Cartwright, Wiremu Greig (Eels), Nathan Brown (Chooks), Chee-Kam (Souths), Jaemon Salmon (Panthers). With Flanno there is a good chance.

Fitzgibbon will be a good one as he runs good lines and will add something to the attack.

Totally agree Slip, you would have to think that Flanno has started doing things in the background and would certainly have his eye on who is going and who he could work with and importantly who he might be able to get. He's not that stupid to think that he can start the fix up in November when its all too late. He's at it now we are too much of a horror show for anything else.

Think I read Fitzgibbon looking at UK

It is a such a shame really. The blues could use him. Maybe if someone cut throat was on the selection committee there is a slim chance but its not looking likely.

We need to build mentally, we need a similiar boot camp as melbourne do every year. Players learn real quick that being in shape is a blessing during the torture they are put through each preseason. If you havent watched it yet have a look on youtube , Players can bludge through training sessions easily, its the want and desire to be better that we need which includes buying or upgrading players that want success and show it through hard work during the preseason. Its a mental thing and doing sprints doesnt help anything, thats old school griffin tactics. We need to build a better attitude as a group mentally first and foremost!

The fact is the Dragons have had similar camps most years. Not sure what they do exactly but all clubs have one weekend away dooing these boot camps. Maybe Storm's versions are harder we would not know. Our club does not think to show some inside videos like this for the fans.
Maybe we have softer instructors and the video would be embarrasing IDK.
The problem is not what we do in pre-season it is how we do it and where the bar level of expectation and achievement is.

Personally I think Flanagan has a couple of things going for him when he takes over:

1) Apparently there is a significant portion of the salary cap available over the next couple of seasons which will allow him to build a squad more to his liking (assuming he still has the ability to attract good players, which I believe he does).

2) For those players coming off contract over the next season or two he will be able to decide who he feels he can improve into quality NRL players, and who he can't. For those he can he will be able to negotiate their next deals from a position of strength. In other words they haven't been performing, are not particularly attractive to other clubs, and therefore could be re-signed on more sensible deals, which frees up further salary cap space, allowing him to rebalance the squad accordingly.

I think he is actually arriving at the perfect time (and not a moment too soon some would say).

Are there any top 8 futures markets out there yet for 2024? I'm getting excited.

its about time the Dragons have the upper hand in something. Also Flanno being aggressive in recruiting is exactly what we want. So the Titans have tensions because we just didnt roll over and let Hunt go. Plus it was their F%$kUP having the release clauses in Tino's and Fafita's contract not the Dragons, so stick it up your arse Titans.
Remember Hunt wanted a similar escape clause re Hook. Isn’t it good we told him ‘no’. Imagine the shit we’d be wearing now, had we yielded to his request.
