I'm also 100% on the importance of junior development, but the kids (on their own) are not going to turn our club around.. there needs to be a strong 1st grade club to force their way into.. and a coach who will give them that opportunity when they actually earn it, we haven't had any of those things....

Rushing the kids through the process, pulling them out of their junior (or reserve grade) structure where they are developing their games and learning our senior structure.. then dropping them into a losing 1st grade side where there lack of defence is exposed.. isnt doing any of us any favours.

On top of that.. we won't even retain the best kids if they think their career will be stifled here.. and those we do keep will be on massive overs.. like Sloan, Amone & Sullivan for example.

As much as everyone keeps bagging Gus, he gets it... Flanno gets it too, but he can't get the contracts over the line. We need to rid ourselves of the 'club of last resort' title before we can turn our future around, hopefully this is a much different position in 12 months time.

Agree some need nurturing , but others don't ....... I see it this way if your good enough they will make it and the exceptional ones need to be given a go early or they flounder around in lower grades losing interest , thinking they can do better than the guys in first grade that are getting flogged each week ....... What would of our mob have done with a player like Walsh from The Broncos , waited and waited until some other club picked him up ...... I say play them give them games here and there then we will know ...... The cream rises to the top ......

Still waiting for his English club to release him.
Yes, that's right blacksafake. Catalan Dragons haven't released him and the Dogs now have their 30 man quota with the past 4 recent signings. Probably that is the reason why Gus has been having lots to say to RFM and his manager and no doubt wanting to get rid of him to make way for Taukeiaho who then can plead his exit from Catalans for family reasons (yeah right).

Just seen on the Daily Telegraph that Treigh Stewart has joined the Melbourne Storm on a train and trial contract
Good on him, there is some Benny Barba in him, the way he pulls through tackles with acceleration.. I would love for him to step up.. in fact he was always the player I wanted us to back.. but somehow Sloan leapfrogged him.

But our future now I think is Rumble, Sloan, SFinau and *Roberts in that reserve grade fullback and wing positions, not sure how we will play it yet... there may well be other bodies to come yet.

Bellamy should get young Treigh Stewart playing Storm footy. He has though the likes of Meaney and Papenhuysen in his way.

Is change really here though? I think Flanagan is a great appointment and a good coach. But having said that, he needs the pieces around him to fall into place too.

The board: Doust and Piggott still on there. That's not good. Those fossils will continue to hamstring the club.

The Gordon's: One Gordon off the board, another put on the board. Is she capable or is it purely nepotism? Is a Gordon there to purely keep the family's intentions regarding the club at heart? Probably. That family has never wanted to put things in place for the club if it meant reaching into their own pocket. Fair enough if this is just a business, but it's more than that, this is a sporting club, and running it how you would any other business is not the way.

St George: How that place is run, how hard it is to get the board members that fans actually want is a disgrace. And then after they've been elected, they can elect from their board onto the St George Illawarra board. Fans do not have a say in who these imbeciles elect on OUR CLUBS board. Craig Young is still very much there in the background meddling, let's not pretend he's got no influence over what Doust says, thinks and actions on the club board itself. Just an absolute leech. Was Flanno's top priority Dean Young as assistant too? Or was that a condition?

Ben Haran: Just leave. How does this bloke have a job? If he's such a "good bloke" maybe let him be the receptionist at the new COE when it opens.

I think there are good people in the club doing (or trying to do) good things. For example, I actually like our CEO Ryan Webb. But those good people are constantly hamstrung by, in essence, the board. They have not changed one bit from last year. I know two new board members including Creagh were brought on last year. That's some fairly recent change, but as I said Doust and Piggott are still there, who love holding this club back. Any success Flanagan manages will be despite the board, not because of them. The whole club itself has not changed as much as it may look. There are huge problems still there.
Great post. We can't change the club until we get rid of those muppets. Fish rots from the head.

What about their youngster who starred in one of the pacific tests recently?
Yes you are right there Gippsy. His name is Sualauvi Faalogo and has plenty of wraps. So it could be that as Papenhuysen has injury concerns that he unfortunately suffers regularly from and some being very serious ones, head and body, he looks like a big risk and likely only being able to play less than half a season, so the Storm needs insurance to back Meaney and Faalogo. The more the merrier and Bellamy will certainly make sure that he will iron out any defensive issues that Treigh Stewart has.

Fullback !
Paps and Meaney won’t be both at the club after next year or before
1 will go and they need backup
Apparently Meaney would end up at centre.. so that sort of fixes one of them.. Paps I believe they tried to medically retire and offload.. but maybe he's still the starting fullback and the young kid will start in reserve grade, but I dunno where that leaves Treigh Stewart.. no way hes a winger.. maybe could play 5/8.. but he also cant tackle..

Here we go again.

The Roosters are being linked with Australian Rugby winger Mark Nawana...let's just say he's of Fijian origin.

The young guy has been described as a sort of cross between Israel Filau and Sualii- and therefore a possible full-back option. He played league as a junior and is194cms and 100 kgs. Brett Papworth gave him a strong rap today on Talkin Sport.

It may not happen but why aren't the Dragons at least making a play for these types of players- particularly as we lack pace in our outside backs. We could use Rava as a lure.

November 1st is upon us.

Do not disappoint.

November 13 and nothing yet for '24 or '25.

I'm reading "Flanagan not confident at all but wants Manu" type of headlines. Right intention but no way to execute. Hard to see how this ends well. Even good coaching cannot save this lot.

The sooner we all ready ourselves for years more of being nobodies in this comp, the better.

Yeah I wonder if we're looking outside the square. I would think we offer more opportunities of playing in the top grade than most for someone looking for a chance.
