Old enough Gareth lol.
The daughters & work colleagues call me “old man”. I can’t say what the leader of the opposition (wife) calls me though.:joy:

I concur re Norman who I had hopes that he’d of been good for us when we signed him.

Good to know . You can take some comfort knowing that if you have greying hair you are in the ‘ old man ‘ category , but once it’s gone you immediately go into the ‘ ancient ‘ class . :no_mouth:

Anthony Griffin has emerged as the favourite to replace Paul McGregor as coach of the Dragons ahead of a crucial job interview on Thursday.

The Daily Telegraph reports the former Panthers and Broncos coach is ahead of David Furner and interim coach Dean Young, with the trio to be interviewed by the Dragons board via Zoom.

Roosters assistant coach Craig Fitzgibbon ruled himself out of the running last week.

Young, however, could be asked to stay on as assistant coach with the club viewing him as an ideal candidate for the top job in two or three years time.

While a timeline for the announcement is not yet clear, it is understood the board would like it resolved quickly having already missed out on signing Melbourne Storm forward Christian Welch due to coaching uncertainty.

But while the man known as “Hook” is leading the race, simmering tensions at the embattled club could complicate the process.

Fox League’s Lara Pitt told NRL 360 former club CEO Peter Doust’s return to the board has led has created tension at the club that could impact the head coach decision.

“As I understand it there is a divide in the boardroom between the WIN side and the St George side of the board,” Pitt said.

“That those representing Bruce Gordon’s 50 per cent stake in the club are not happy that Peter Doust has found his way back in a seat on the St George side of the club.

“And this bad blood goes back a long way to when Doust was CEO of the club and he was looking to take games away from (Wollongong) to Kogarah and ANZ Stadium.”

Whoever gets the nod will be faced with turning around the fortunes of the Dragons and will want to be involved in key decisions around the roster.

Million dollar man Ben Hunt has already been linked with a return to the Broncos while the Dragons have reportedly identified a 30-man list of players who are entering the final year of their contracts and could be poached for either 2021 or beyond.

The Dragons are keeping an eye on Broncos forward Joe Ofahengaue, Sea Eagles star Martin Taupau and Cowboys front-rower Jordan McLean.

Sharks prop Aaron Woods, Titans back-rower Jarrod Wallace and Panthers young gun Jack Hetherington are other options.

More of the same as far as i'm concerned. The board is once again overstepping its responsibilities and providing a list of 30 players for the coach to consider as recruitments. Building a team is the responsibility of the head coach and his team, not the Board.

I think they have demonstrated once again that they what to get their hands into everything, rather than providing the oversight and governance functions. I actually feel sorry for whoever gets the role as they will have their hands tied behind their backs.

With all the problems both clubs are facing, surely the need to spend more time looking at other aspects is prudent eg the decaying state of the leagues clubs; how to attract more members and patronage to the club etc.

You can see why no top-line coach wants to come to the Dragons.

Griffin hasn’t won a comp but his winning record puts him in top tier status.

I actually think he’s ideal for the role. Add a couple of experienced forwards & one or two backs combined with blooding some of the young talent we have coming through & we’ll be competitive next year.

DRAGONS SHOOT DOWN HUNT EXIT TALK

St George Illawarra chief executive Ryan Webb was quick to shoot down the whole Ben Hunt back to the Brisbane Broncos in 2021 furphy.

“It’s got no legs at all,” Webb told Fox Sports.

“We’ve never spoken about moving Ben Hunt. We’ve been approached by a couple of clubs but it’s never been considered.

“The other thing it’s important to point out is we’re not in any sort of salary cap trouble.

“We’ve got money to spend for next season.”

The Dragons have got about $1.5 million to spend on players for next year.

DRAGONS NARROW IN ON NEW COACH

The Dragons will hold final interviews for the vacant head coaching position on Thursday after the bloke they really wanted, Craig Fitzgibbon, knocked the job back.

Fitzgibbon played in the 1999 grand final for St George Illawarra before joining the Roosters to become a club legend at the Tricolours.

The Roosters assistant coach has now knocked back four NRL coaching positions over the course of the last 12 months – the Dragons, Warriors, Cowboys and Newcastle.

Speaking of the Knights, there’s a red hot tip about Anthony Seibold resurfacing at Newcastle alongside Adam O’Brien.

We almost dropped the telephone initially but we’re assured it’s a good thing.

Watched a bit of the Canterbury v Gold Coast game, Canterbury have a prop Ofahiki Ogden he’s a big unit, young & not shy to get into the hard stuff up the middle. Quick play the ball, he was impressive. He’s contracted unto 2021 certainly a future signing target.

DRAGONS SET FOR $1.5million SPENDING SPREE ! ! !

Unfortunately in this day and age $1.5 million will not go too far . If they were to sign 3 decent players and I mean individuals who were skillful and could bring some ‘ grit and soul ‘ to the team then it would be gone .

End of the Dragons spending spree for another 5 years .
