As far as I can tell, Steve Price was hired as coach because he was a good bloke, he was hanging around, and people liked him. Ditto Mary. At least Dean Young has gone somewhere else and had a job somewhere else.
Johnno
I believe that Dean is well aware of not being cast as the type of Stereotype old boy that Possm is eluding to , hence the 3 years at Cowboys not being shortened. He has also been an assistant NRL coach now for 10 years!
I also understand that Dean would not return whilst Albert was on the Board, fearful of how that would be perceived

Totally against Dean Young coming back to the club at this time.Maybe in time when he has successfully shown his ability to coach a first grade team yes. Until then NO from me. We need a proven, successful first grade coach, with a winning proven record. After all we've tried all these wannabes coaches & look where that has got us.
So let's for the sake of the longevity of our club. The question has tobe asked. Do we want more of the same mediocre coaching appointments. Acquiring Mediocre players at the club. Or do we want a first class coach
bringing first class players.
After all its worked before
back in 2009.

Why do we need Dean Young as our coach, why not someone else.

We don't. People are acting like it's a foregone conclusion but it shouldn't be. His dad wants to continue the legacy I'm sure but that family has done enough damage. If you thought Albert was a meddling fool in the past, imagine what he'd be like with the mini me in charge. Dean has done nothing to earn or warrant being signed up as head coach. If Albert wasn't his dad he wouldn't even get a mention. No more jobs for the boys, get a real coach, an experienced first grade coach.

If Dean Young was not Albert's son, he would not have a hope in hell to be employed as head coach. And, if our Board was not compromised by the backroom deal done to sell half the shares to the Gordons / WIN Corp, then Hasler would be our target.

We had already seen Dean Young's talent when he became interim head coach.

I say, while ever this corrupt nepotism is seen as normal behavior, our club will perform poorly on and off the field. What our club urgently needs is a good clean-out of the Board members who have been there and done that for many past years.

I say, do not honor the done deal, do what is in the best interest of the Club, and chase Hasler hard and fast; win his signature to that we can move forward in a positive way.

Trouble is, we got a real coach, an experienced first grade coach, and his name is Anthony Griffin. And he was the best of the applicants. Of the coaches out there, you will never get Bennett, Bellamy, Robinson, Cleary, Ciraldo, Demetriou or Fitzgibbon. It's possible but unlikely you will get Hasler. No one wanted Flanagan. Doesn't leave a lot of choices.

So with Cody Ramsey facing an uncertain future with health issues and Amone the clown more than likely facing no fault stand down or worse case scenario a sacking our squad again becomes weaker and weaker

Potential RD 2 squad

1. Tyrell Sloan
2. Mathew Feagai
3. Moses Suli
4. Zac Lomax
5. Mikaele Ravalawa
6. Jayden Sullivan
7. Ben Hunt ( C )
8. Blake Lawrie
9. Jacob Liddle
10. Jack De Belin
11. Jaydn Su’a
12. Josh Kerr
13. Jack Bird
BENCH
14. Moses Mbye
15. Zane Musgrove
16. Aaron Woods
17. Ben Murdoch - Masila
1 to 13 similar to our round 1 team this year except of course for Ramsey, McCullough, Amone. That 13 could hold their own against most, if not all the bottom 8 sides and occasionally a top 8 side or two but not much more than that. They might even fight it out for a spot in the 8 if everything went well. Basically pretty average but you couldn't write them off completely. I certainly don't think we're Spoon material.
That bench though, just like the bench in round 1 this year is where we'll fall down, even adding Molo in rnd 3. If you watch that rnd 1 game you'll see it was the likes of McCullough, Woods, Gjetski, Mbye that let us down, missed tackles, ran up out of the line, put in dodgy kicks etc. Guys that shouldn't be in 1sts, who were making up the numbers, ill advised and desperate signings. We need some real quality off the bench, we don't have any and if we get some injuries we're fooked.
Side note - Sloan had try assists for our first two tries of the year in that game and was pretty much responsible for MBye's try at the end. I hope he's worked hard on his defence and emphatically reclaims the 1 jersey before Hook installs bloody MBye.

You think D.Young will do a Bradbury ? I don't want to see him anywhere near the club. I'm not really a Hasler fan but he's miles ahead of Young in qualifications.

Don't really think Hook is a 1st grade coach. He was obviously selected by our Board because they could manipulate him. Into constructing a cheap inept team of misfits and journeymen. I think the Board are the real problem. They also know, with a "top self coach"they don't have the same power to manipulate & put their pathetic viewpoints on him.
Just like Bennett when he arrived, his stipulation was,
he ran the team. No exception. In other words no Board no DOUST sticking their head in and upsetting the team. Bennett new how much the front office was messing up the team.

Reports going around that Amone will be placed under no fault stand down due to his charge having a max 14 yr sentence. In other news fellow shit club the Tigers continue along with the Bulldogs to make positive strives akin to our shitshow of a club by signing John Bateman

This clubs future is shaky to say the least

I reckon we could hire from within and go w Ben Wolfe as head coach after 12 mnths as an assistant.. especially if the team makes the top 8.. Hook is gone whatever the result is this year (except maybe for a Grand final appearance)

there is no evidence:

1. that Dean Young is already lined-up to be the next head coach,

2. that Des Hasler has any interest in being the next head coach.

there is a heap of evidence that Hunt won’t play hooker.

Did we show any interest in jumping in and poaching Bateman before the Tigers got it done? Or maybe we didn’t have the $250 transfer fee they wanted? 😂

Tigers and Bulldogs will be big improvers in 2023. The way things currently sit we will definitely be contenders for wooden spoon given the the total lack of recruitment and now the Amone and Ramsay situations… I’m not being the ultimate pessimist but you just have to be realistic, I see no evidence of the this grand plan the players and management keep talking about

He’s hardly put his feet under the desk as an nrl assistant coach at Saints and already you have him earmarked as the head coach for 2024. Steady on mate

Let's hope. In 2021 cody had a few chances, but didn't do that well. Look how he played when given a chance in 2022. My hope is that a player or 2 excells. Maybe Sloan, Sullivan or even Lomax lives up to expectations. Unfortunately we don't have high expectations, but we do have hope. I remember 1996 we were written off, but in the end we played in the GF.
