You are on the money here. Still available for 2024 is the best young forward in the game Jeremiah Nanai . Could Dean Young entice Jeremiah to come down with him to Saints ? If not Liam Martin and Spenser Liniu are also available for 24.
I can’t see any of these guys coming to Saints unless they know who the Head coach will be. The longer the decision takes the less likely we are to land any of these guys.
Yes, and that is why I believe we should sign Hasler now.

Two things stick out about this. One they had to advertise and two the quality of the applicants.
Yes but probably when you advertise and you say the salary is around 300K you get what you pay for.
But to be fair go back to the end of 2020, who was available?.
Fitzy knocked us back as still had a contract
Flanno was still on a ban
Demetriou had commited to Souths
Wayne likely was always going to Dolphins
Ciraldo said he was not ready and just come off losing a GF
Green was sacked

Bulldogs searched and found Barrett
Brisbane stuck with Kevvie
Look how they have turned out

The forum would of been in meltdown if we signed another unknown rookie from anywhere Young or an old 1st grade coach like Furner, Elliott who had not even got teams hardly to a Top 8 position. Hook had and it was the right choice at the time it seemed.
Toovey and Payten were the ones I was hoping
Toovey no one seems to want or he does not want to coach again?.
Cowboys were too quick for us with Payten but he worked there before with success and that was like a glove fit for both parties

What were we supposed to do?
Hindsight is wonderful though.

Of those they’ve lost, only Leilua and Hastings are quality.
Koroisau, Bateman are very big signings, we’d be celebrating those signings. Papali’i is a good get too. Klemmer, meh decent but nothing to get excited about.
But can you imagine how excited this forum would be if Dragons had signed any of them?

I know, Koroisau and Bateman are great - why we didn't chase them both or at least Koroisau when we were desperate for a hooker gawd only knows. I like Klemmer, I like Papli'i even better.
But honestly, I can't see much improvement there given their halves. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. They should have kept Hastings.

i dont think our soft underbelly could handle Des

Des is up in your face one on one all day long.......demanding more !!!

Griffin just gets angry and bitches and moans to the whole team and they switch off........cause it is easy to switch off and hide when old grumpy pants is just moaning

Good points BLM. I think the frustrating thing for me is how long McGregor was allowed to continue for, when it was pretty clear to most of us that he was really struggling as a head coach. With that length of tenure, I would have thought there would have been some opportunities to replace him with someone better in those last couple of years. But maybe not.
I do admire the fact that the club backs it's coaches, I just think that sometimes a successful CEO knows when to be a bit more cut-throat.

I agree. And that is the moot point from 2020, we all wanted Mary gone, replace him with anybody just get rid of him.
They did that and the CEO only started in the job so to speak in recent times who took that action you speak of.
Previous CEO's (BJ excluded who was hamstrung and he knew it) were too busy worrying about protecting their own jobs and bowing to anything that offered a bit of money the clubs way - right or wrong (e.g. right game, right venue stuff) before looking at forward planning, performance on field and football dept, believing hstory would repeat and the legend of the Dragons would always reign and rise again supreme by just existing.

Everyone wanted Mary gone asap including me as they would be happy for anyone but him to still be coach. Unfortunately the Saints Board found someone worse and the fans are suffering even more. They really need to get the next coaching appointment right as 3 duds in a row is just showing how poor judgement the board have when it comes to coaches and even lower expectations.

Do you think that there is some hidden agenda that has been going on at Board level for the past 10-11 years for having these last 3 duds coach the team or is it that they are just complete dead shits and have no idea on what a good coach is now? Did they think that having Bennett for 3 years and in those years having our team in the top 4 was enough and they have just not bothered to spend a few hundred thousand dollars more to get someone decent for a change.

I think that the better coaches are well aware of the dramas that are associated with the club and even though they might get a reasonable pay, it maybe just not worth all the angst. Maybe, that is why Flanagan wasn't persisting in being the head coach of the Dragons and that when Mary was "sacked" the applications to be the head coach were not great?

I honestly cannot see a really decent coach coming to us in 2024. We need one that is for sure and then at the same time recruit big time.

How long into 2023 will Hook have to coach? If he is sacked after say 6 rounds, who will be the interim coach? Will all this lead us to the bottom of the table?

2023 is going to be a very interesting year to say the least. The bad fortunes of Ramsey and Amone haven't helped and the lack of signings of anyone decent where they are needed is puzzling. There still isn't anything confirmed about us signing Ben Murdoch-Masila. Why the delay? 2023 could just be a write off!

Para 1. I think not as the club has at high level has been mismanaged thinking the name would keep us going. They tried a few times to get top coaches (Bellamy & Bennett Mark 2) but did not get over the line.
Para 2. Probably stigma is correct especially after GUS told the world. But who applied in 2020 I have discussed earlier as there was no one decent available.
Para 3. Des
Para 4. Intemin = assistant. No Dolphins will win the spoon.
Para 5. You know it is the XMAS break, staff are on leave including media.

Just a question, why don't the media sink the boot into the Bronco's club culture after another one of their troubled players is accused of misconduct? A Dragons player only has to sneeze and it seems like front page news! The Bronco's? Nothing to see here.

Media is pretty much governed by clickbait these days. Stories are reported based on how many clicks they'll get. I suppose the Dragons brand still carries plenty of interest.
Back-handed compliment I suppose.
Starting to be reported more widely now that he's been charged. Interestingly he's been stood down already by the Broncos.

Stood down but not released. He resigned until 2024 recently I think.
Apparently he "inappropriately touched" someone which is likely a rap over the knuckles offence rather than anything more severe, though I'm no expert on such matters.
If he did become available though and you could get him out of Qld he's a good prospect, young and keen with his best years to come.

No way we even attempt to sign him especially with a sexual assault charge against him even if acquitted can you imagine the uproar having JDB and TCR in the same team.

"inappropriately touched"

This stuff is out of control IMO it can mean hand on the buttocks an unwanted kiss to say the back of the neck can lead to a charge of indecent assault. If I was a young man of 20 I would be petrified today.
Imagine if you were on a crowded bus or train and wanting to get through the people to get on or off and brushing up against someone. Would that be inappropriate?
