If we landed Hasler, it would be a big step toward success for the Dragons. I wonder if Saab and some others will switch clubs to follow him.
I think the Hasler theory has some merit for 2024 but I don’t think anything can save 2023. Currently we are well short of being able to field a competitive team, we’ll be a bottom 4 team next year. I’ve made peace with it as long as some change comes as a result.

Honestly if you didn't laugh you'd cry...

Here's Canterbury putting together a team that will be ultra competitive next year with the addition of a coach that is universally recognised as a big part of the Panthers success. The likes of Mahoney, Kikau and Sutton joining the club, to go with Burton, Addo-Carr and the rest they've acquired. And now there's talk they are looking at Moses.

Yet here we are signing discards that can barely pass a medical, and some no name from the Queensland comp. And all the while here our deluded supporters are babbling on about pathways and all that garbage, at the same time as two of our most promising juniors are wanting to jump ship.

And now the report is Bud was assured that Hunt wouldn't be at the club post 2023 when he re-signed. Even if that is true I'm sure it won't stop the usual suspects from attacking him for wanting out. Personally i don't blame him. It would probably be the best thing for, any future career he might have in first grade, if he left the dumpster fire that we have become.

The place is a complete and utter joke of an organisation.

I posted yesterday that I thought promises were made to Sullivan to entice him to extend along with a salary bump in 2024. The obvious question is, what’s changed since then? It’s the same people in charge of recruitment, I don’t blame Sullivan for wanting out. The only winner out of this is Ben Hunt, he got his payday.

I second this.

Yeah it’s getting silly now.
Annoying as rival fans, who had to put up with us being good for so many years are now loving laying the boot in.
I was with sharks fans today, they were talking about how Bronson Xerri is back soon but saying nobody would sign him with his off field behaviour, “except Dragons or maybe Tigers”
That’s what we have become, and I could totally see us signing Bronson Xerri btw, we are a pile of shit.

So true. Anyone who thinks this team does anything except go backwards in 2023 is delusional. I’ve said it before on this thread but I can honestly see the wooden spoon as a possibility in ‘23 if Griffin remains coach.

We just continue to go through with what is obviously wrong. I'll give them some credit in that they've rejected these guys' requests to leave which is definitely at this stage the correct decision.

Concerning me though is us being linked to qld cup players and players like Liam Martin. I have said before I rate Martin's effort, but he is an average second-rower at best that the Dragons would end up paying 750-800k for. No thanks, move on. Why we are being linked with more big name second-rowers than props in beyond me too. Instead of putting it out there we were keen on David Fifita, why wasn't it put out we were keen on Tapine? He's re-signed with the Raiders but that's who we should've been showing public interest in before Fifita. I hope the signing of Martin doesn't come to fruition as we'd be paying a premium for an output that doesn't warrant the salary.

If anything, we should at the moment just be looking for a solid second rower that does a good job week in week out for around 400-450k (might be unpopular, but would love Josh Jackson) and then look at bolstering our props with the likes of Tom Flegler, Spencer Leniu, Emre Guler, Egan Butcher, Fletcher Baker, Tui Kamakamica and maybe Luke Thompson. All of those props listed (as well as Jackson) are off contract at the end of 2023, so there is ample opportunity to sign some quality front-rowers as well as a solid second-rower who is Dale Finucane like in the way he prepares and plays in terms of his leadership and reliability.

If we felt we needed a player like Finucane in the squad 12 months ago, why we would we not go after Jackson who could be forced out of Canterbury due to salary cap pressure. His signing would also allow more room for what we really need being quality front-rowers and a hooker. In a perfect world, my signings for 2024 would include: Leniu, Flegler, Egan Butcher, Josh Jackson and Reece Robson, with any other additional bonuses welcome.

Well Josh Jackson does fall into the washed up veteran category we have a penchant for.

I still don’t understand why we let Tariq Sims go for 2023. Mystery to me.

Its like an Agatha Christie murder mystery; I'm in….
David Fifita would be a great replacement for Sims.

Spencer Lenui is the prop available and the one we should sign.

If Hasler wants to come on a 5-year deal, for goodness' sake don't offer him only 3 years - Craig Young or Peter Doust.

Ben Hunt not happy with the attendance at his awards night, going to have a chat to the team when he gets back from England and tell them it’s unacceptable.
Sure that will go over well.
Yes. I reckon he would have been surprised by the lack of support. I suspect this has come as a revelation to him. Hence his dramatic shift in his ‘support’ for Hook. I also expect Hook will be enlightened by Hunt’s apparent shift of allegiance. Hunt started out refusing to sign unless Hook was locked-in. As soon as he re-signs he publicly states that yeah, it’s no secret Hook’s on the ropes.

Now that Benny got his deal, he speaks to truth.
Gotta laugh.

There were other quotes you forgot to mention....

“We are going in the right direction. The experience we have in the team and the extra year for those young guys to develop."
“Guys like Cody Ramsey, Junior Amone and Mat Feagai came on really well at the back end of the year.”

me, me, me - selfish prick!

Reported Bulldogs waiting til Nov 1 to put in an offer to Mitchell Moses.

Sullivan not good enough? Or not confident of him getting a release?
Well to be frank Sullivan & Moses are almost at opposite ends of the spectrum.
So as reported who do they really see as a partner for Burton.
Sullivan is not their problem solver. It almost arguable that Flanagan offers more ATM than Sullivan for a 1st grade side in all facets. No doubt Sullivan is younger? and more exciting on his feet.

1. Tapine never came to market nor did his manager seek public interest
2. You will never convince me Martin is just an average 2nd rower. IMO he is better than that. Not scared of going for the big play and big hit to inspire his team mates
3. No to Jackson..he is ageing and not what we need and Finucane does more than him nowadays but looking at Finucane I am glad we missed on paying him 650+ for 3 years
4. Agree with some of the props but a couple have already been resigned. Tui, Butcher (who is not really a prop?)
5. Yes to Robson
