The Rumours Thread

To be fair until my club became the poo stain of the competition and I was never really concerned with how boards work.

So how did the Tigers get their board wiped recently? If it wasn’t Shane Richardson, what would have led to their dismissal?
It was the Shareholders, which as RedVee has pointed out in this case mostly comes down to Western Suburbs Leagues Club, they control 90% of the shares. The fact that they appointed an interim board very quickly, makes me think the planning to do this was in progress for quite a long time. Shane Richardson may well have been agitating in the background to bring about change, but I can't imagine anyone over there has been happy with the performance of the last few years.

I'm in the same boat as you. If the club was going well, no-one would give a rats about the Board structure. Unfortunately our board is closer to a 50-50 arrangement, and we seem to have all these cosy little old boys arrangements in place. No idea what you do about it. Live in hope I guess. Andrew Lancaster at least sounds like he's making genuine efforts to improve things.

They are blessed to have a majority shareholder, Holman Barnes group which has a majority of appointees from Wests Ashfield.
They triggered the clean out, and they appointed Richardson. How else did Richo start same day as the Board was hearing that they were out of a job? Old board didn’t appoint him, new board didn’t have their feet under the desk yet.

We have no majority shareholder.
Exactly! This is at the heart of the governance problems for our Club. It's a unique (and really bad) structure. In truth even a normal 'joint venture' doesn't have a 50/50 split in its management structure.

It's interesting (and many would say, inevitable) that the implicit dysfunction and indecision filters throughout the organisation and ends up being seen on the field. I've always said that all organisations take-on the personality of the person at the top.

The great Jack Gibson always said that winning starts in the back office and filters down to the team that goes onto the field each week.
I am hopeful that the appointment of Flanagan is the first step in the Dragons turning around the disappointment of many mediocre seasons since the departure of Bennett.

Thanks for the explanation as I’m genuinely curious. If we don’t restructure the Dragons in some way similar then they might as well send us off to Perth as far as I’m concerned. The boards security has well and truly killed us off.
I have read a couple of times that during the prolonged process to replace the Steelers, St George tried to take ownership of that share (25% then I think) but were denied by the NRL and the Steelers.
That would have lead to a 75% St G - 25% WIN Corp shareholder split and a resolution to the 50/50 stalemate

Ronald Volkman reportedly gone.. medical examination found a previous injury and he's going to need season ending surgery. Contract was never officially lodged with the NRL apparently, so it won't be lodged and we are not going to keep him around.
Far out... Something has gone on there.

Kid left a 2 year contract and now is suddenly unemployed and can't play for a year.

Explains why the warriors released him with no questions

Sounds very fishy. Like Volkman and the Warriors tried to put one over us. Unfortunately for them, they didn't count on the glacial speed with which our management operates.

Hahaha glacial is correct.

But it could very well be the case that the specialist medicos that would have done the exam on his shoulder was on Christmas leave.

He was in a yellow bib because of our own physios probably.

I don't believe in curses but we are cursed.
We have had a curse for quite a while the bigredv. It seems that our hopes get dashed every way we turn. Cannot get marquees, cannot get worthwhile players. Always just hoping for the best outcome and when we hit the field, that's when we find out how things are.

We are pinning a lot of hope on Flanno but he may not be the solution to our problems which are many. I am getting to dislike HOPE.

I don't even cry for how deep a hole we have dug ourselves into - it's actually laughable at this point - but I cry for how long I know it will take to get our way out of it. We can't even seem to make a tangible start on that. This is one shambles of an organisation.
