Can we, with an already pretty weak forward pack, afford to carry Bird on the bench who has now turned into a centre again? He looks slimmer which is good, but he now might not exactly be big enough to play in the forwards. Nor does he want to. I just don't see any role for him in the first team if he wants to be an out and out centre. He may come on as a ball playing lock at times, which he has said he doesn't want to do. Bar that sort of a role, he'll get no minutes unless one of our backs gets injured and is therefore a wasted bench spot.
Just a nightmare that I have been having, maybe Flanno interchanges Bird with Kyle and Kyle goes to hooker, wow now I have a headache :)

Yeah the Bulldogs. They treat their guys like shit I'd say. I'm 100% that they paid out TPJ a small amount of dosh and encouraged him to get into boxing so that they could sign others and now of course they will be after the May boys to leave the Roosters, Penrith and Super League to be at the Bulldogs for 2025.

I don't think that is correct, TPJ had 2 years to go and he didnt get any money for those 2 years, i think the dogs just paid out the current year that he was contracted and Doggies were happy as Larry to get him off the books as he was a waste of money for them..

Why wouldn't we chase the May brothers? We need a strong front rower and we definitely need an excellent outside back + a very good utility. We are way passed the point where we turn up our noses due to past bad behaviour. Plus it makes whoever will ultimately get them pay overs if we miss out
We could be, its just not going to be made as public as before for obvious reasons, we certainly have the money.

Headline in the Telegraph that we are negotiating a million dollar contract extension for Sloan. Can’t help but think why not wait and see how he goes first, if he won’t jump or tackle it’s just a waste.
This is the tricky part. Sloan is able to sign with other clubs for 25' now. So, if we wait and see and he kills it, his asking price sky rockets as other clubs come knocking.

According to the article. It is 500k pa for two years.

If he kills it in the first 5 rounds. That price could go up to 750k. Jahream Bula at the tigers signed on for 600k a season.

I think 500k for two years is about as low as we could go. Cause if he kills it, then we can negotiate a big extension next year without him being courted by other teams. But 500k might be enough for him to bite without talking to other teams.

He'll be second choice centre, so won't be on the bench but will come into the team if we get injuries. Last year on his contract I think? Might get a few games this year but I don't expect him to play a big part.
Might get a few games?
Flanno has been pretty vocal in the media about Bird for someone not in his plans for NRL.
I’ll be staggered if he isn’t starting round 1.

I took some notes from the MMM podcast today.. there is a standard spreadsheet for salary benchmarking that clubs/agents use for negotiation.. Riccio quoted some examples which I wrote down:

Average Salary of the Top 5 NRL Players (by position):
  • Fullback: $939,000
  • Wingers: $451,000
  • Centre: $614,000
  • 5/8: $764,000
  • Halfback: $1,100,000
  • Prop: $845,000
  • Hooker: $618,000
  • 2nd Row: $753,000
  • Lock: $841,000
This is obviously on the books figures... but anyway to give you an idea.. Uele who they ranked in the 16-20th ranked prop category.. is around $650,000.. and then add a fair big of cream to get him to leave his club and go live in new zealand.. the sharks offer isnt nearly as ludicrous as it first sounds. It also gives you some idea about the sort of bare minimum dollars we need to pull marquee talent.

give him the 1M, and front load it. Actually Take a risk and offer 3yrs, front loaded. That way we use the cap this year, and it’s minimal impact on the 26 cap

Thanks for posting Rev....very interested in seeing that wingers are the bottom feeders but in fact are the players who score the tries.
I've never believed in a model like this even though it's only a guide.
A top centre is crucial to the effectiveness of a half like The Chin so getting a balanced side is key.
Would these figures be derived by averages of known contracts?

Thanks for sharing @TheRev
You can see why wingers want to sign to play fullback/centre.
In today’s game they’re more than just try scorers.
