Time for a reality chec

Outside of say the 1 and 7, possibly the 4, 13 and a couple of forwards, do we realy have a strong roster, no wonder we are chasing players because the answer is "no". Plenty of posters want to get stuck into SK, but there si a time to rebuild and that is what the club needs after the previous 4 years, the NYC looks like the foundation if we keep the good ones and continue to build by signings

There is a reason why long term posters are absent, they tend to talk to each other outside thios forum and at games ( yes, you are allowed to attend them).Negativity is a curse and there is too much of it on this forum, and those who crave DA returning should ask why he is still unemployed as a coach....ummmmm..

Just my view, and I will het hammered , but that is how I see it

That's true Delboy. Our roster is terrible. I really don't expect to go very good this year.

..and as always we need to calculate a complex algorithm to work out if you are serious or not. Early this week you said you had more confidence after our Monday night performance.

I for 1 believe we have a very strong roster.

We have good outside backs, despite being rookies.

We have a decent 5/8.

Reni, Fui, Hindy, Mannah, Poore, Allgood and Shack are more than a couple of good forwards.

I believe our team should be competing for the bottom half of the eight.

We are in need of a utility, to cover dummy half, to give MK a breather.

About DA, I dont think anyone wants him back. Its just a common spin amongst certain posters.

Its about time SK gets this team to gel, and start producing a few wins.

We desperately need a hooker more than the 40 year old virgin. We also need a player like Glenn Stewart.

I think MK cops a hammering a little too much on these forums. If we had a handy utility like PJ Marsh, 2005 version, we would be so much better off.

If our back rowers can repeat Mondays effort week in week out, we will ask a lot of questions of the defensive line.

Hopefully they can deliver.

Sorry I'm not a fan. He has great defence though.

That's good news that the long term posters who are absent talk to each other. I don't talk to anyone except on this forum.

Cheers for the reality check.

ps I miss Anderson.

Delboy, How long do you rebuild for?

I would say you rebuild with a master coach and not a rookie one.

Why I prompted a question as does SK have too much on his plate?

Should he spend more time on the NRL team rather than NZ and rebuilding the club from ground up? Should he get more help so that the NRL team can get more attention?

He is a rookie NRL coach. He is still learning like how to use the bench, set plays (do we have any?), etc

No problem H, thanks for being thoughtful in your responses. I get what you mean about face value and context, and how that's a useful notion to instill in kids learning literacy - especially when it relates to critical reflection about say news and media. (And of course you know that I do greatly respect the line of work you're in, and the way I'd imagine you carry it out.)

But I'm not sure sure how much currency that same notion has for us regular joes reading posts on a messageboard here though - if that path was followed through to its conclusion we'd be asking everyone to put discliamers about their own contexts under every post, just so we can be sure that we are clear? I'd suggest it's much easier to just not be drawn into making negative assumptions, generalisations or conclusions about any individual's motives or contexts in the first place unless you are sure - could we even say that making those negative assumptions or generalisations against people on here is barking at text in a different way?

I think the reason that the idea of context and not barking at text is pertinent here is that we all (well the people here who are literate anyway :p) do it subconciously.
We usually pick up on the tone of a post or a poster's history and it colours how we understand those posts. It's just the nature of how we read for meaning and is one of the flaws of communicating in a fairly conversant style and for some in text talk. It's why there will always be misunderstandings here.
We tend to write a bit in the way we speak but we don't have the advantage of intonation, body language or facial expression.

What I would say to you Bart is that like it or not, your style of late lends itself to a tone of negativity so it is only natural that readers will adopt that context when reading your posts.
I'm pretty sure that you will say that you don't care what people think of you and that is fine but it is my opinion that most readers here will read your posts in that light and some with more agressive or argumentative tendancies will take you to task on it.

Cheers

Who says long term posters don't post here anymore? Going from the join dates of most people posting in the last couple of pages most are long term posters. Or does 'long term poster' refer to those in some special club or clique?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately I don't think you 're considered a 'long term poster'.

Come on H!!
Bart's not negative at all. It's freedom of speech, and just one person's views.

And what I'd say to you H, is that maybe there's a opportunity to question some of those negative assumptions about others that are made subconsciously...? Especially whenever someone feels an urge to take a leap from addressing the words that were actually posted, and ascribes their own "reading" on context and motives to then have a go at a person behind the words (instead of simply addressing the words, or checking the subconscious assumptions).

And yo a're right - I don't really spend much time analysing what groups or most people on here might choose to assume about posts. It's not world peace we're dealing with here, it's just opinions on football... though I still fail to understand why certain people read and take differing opinions on footy so personally.

Cheers.

On a related general note, this thread has gone like wildfire today, and it's great to see how much discussion about people's different views is taking place, and how few little personal comments and geenralisation (deathriders etc) are getting in the way of it all :thumn.

Great reading, and great stuff everyone :D

Shut up. Idiot.

does every thread here have to turn into a bitch fight? ... seriously!

how about all the people on one side of the fence stop posting little snide "waiting for the deathriders" comments at the end of everything they post .... and the people on the other side of the fence stop biting at everything
